Where to get wire for rebuilding?

I'm going to rebuild my EVOD coils just to get a little better understanding of it, so is there a specific wire the EVOD needs? Can I use thicker wire and will it make a difference? Thanks for any input!

I'm not really familiar with Evods, but I think they're pretty small, aren't they? Probably the thickest you could use would be 30ga, but 32ga would probably work better, unless you really want a lower resistance coil. EVOD heads are Protank single coil heads. There are lots of videos on youtube with different types of coils to try, since some people build open coils (where the wraps don't touch) and some build micro coils (where the wraps are pressed tightly together. I haven't built any for awhile, but I was making micro coils with 28 gauge Kanthal. I can't remember the number of wraps I ended up liking.

You will also need to get a ohm reader. You cannot put a rebuilt coil on your battery without knowing the ohm of your newly built coil.

When I rebuilt those I used 28g kanthol on a needle with 12 wraps. I buy the wire on ebay but you do need a tester!

It should be pointed out that you can't just use any wire for a coil. It needs to be some form of resistance wire. Nichrome and Kanthal are the ones most often used. (You probably knew that, just checking).

I agree with Andria, Lighning vapes is good, and they have Nichrome80 (which for me is better than either Kanthal or Nichrome60 and which is somewhat hard to find).

Since the coils in these heads need to be small, I would recommend 30 or 32 gauge. It's hard to fit a larger-wire coil in there.
Temco is also a good source for Kanthal and nichrome.

I use 29 and 30gauge to rebuild. 32g just too flimsy for me got my wire at Temco, 250ft for under $10 incl shipping Kanthal Wire 29 Gauge RW0170 - 100 Ft 0.5oz Series A-1 Resistance AWG looks like prices have gone up..

Indeed, vaping a rebuilt coil is not wise at all. You can get ohm readers for a reasonable price. Or you can also get a multimeter if you know how to use one. If you search google for A1 Kanthal you should be able to find the wire pretty easily.

You will also need to get a ohm reader. You cannot put a rebuilt coil on your battery without knowing the ohm of your newly built coil.

I use either or... just with a few more or less wraps. This will help you decide how many wraps you need/want Battery drain | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators. And as others have said..... get an Ohm meter or good digital multimeter to test your coils before you use them. Also, you will need to torch these before installing the coil in the head..... dry fire those heads for too long and you'll burn or melt the rubber insulator..... a lighter or even gas stove top works in a pinch too IF you have long "soldering tweezers" AND your carful.

I use 30 ga Kanthal A1 from Temco on a 1/16th drill bit. The 1/16th fits perfectly in the slot and holds the coil in place while you secure the legs. I use Steam Engine to determine the number of wraps for the desired resistance. I usually wrap a bunch of coils and store them in a pill bottle until I feel like putting some atomizers together. I just use my MVP to verify the resistance.

Another factor to consider.

Do not build a coil at a resistance level lower than the coils you can currently buy for your mod. For an ego type battery that would be 1.5 ohms. If you do, your risk frying the circuitry in your battery. And if your circuitry doesn't work (or doesn't exist) you risk your battery going "BOOM"!

1) 12 wraps of anything most likely won't fit in a Protank head without touching the sides and causing a short;

2) if you have a mod with a built-in ohm checker (iTaste vv3, Sigelei Zmax, Vamo, etc), you can skip buying the separate one;

3) be SURE you know what amps your battery is capable of delivering before you even start (hence the admonition to not build coils lower than what you're currently using -- you CAN do that, but lower resistance means your battery has to deliver more amps, and if it's not capable of whatever amps your coil needs, it could get ugly);

4) I've heard that nichrome can cause nausea -- to me that's a fate worse than death, so I will never even try it;

I use 32 gauge kanthal for protank heads (same as evod). I wouldn't use wire any thicker than 30 gauge, will take too long to heat up imo.

I buy all my wire from amazon or eBay (Lightning Vapes brand).

12 wraps do fit and you can see the proof in Rip Trippers youtube video...that's where I learned how to do it!
