i think your right Zelda - she does live 1000 miles from the ocean - that would explain a lot.
Man you guys should come over christmas eve - its seafood heaven at my house - and yes, I even make stuffed clams - ( but I take all of the yuky tummy parts out )
I chop the meat really well and add lots of good seasoning and pop them in the oven -
oh gosh.....just made myself hungry again.........

The people in the midwest don't know what fresh seafood tastes like, Mary. In Georgia, they served us fresh shrimp, and a guy from Chicago thought that it tasted funny and had gone bad. I had to explain to him that it tasted like that, because it was fresh.

I am with you Jerry. In Sicily, they knew how to cook the seafood. Now the pizza.... well it just absolutely sucked there. My favorite meal there was fungi grande... a portabella mushroom seasoned and grilled like a steak. Awesome!

just made that yesterday - my sons favorite!!
marinated in balsamic, olive oil, garlic and lemon juice - we ate 12 huge shrooms - between the 4 of us + homemade red (italian style ) potato salad - it was amazing!

Oh and canned is the worst. Canned clams or oysters... yuck. Its like chewing on aluminum foil.

I prefer my seafood fried but a nice grilled halibut steak is pretty tasty too!!

I'm not too sure about a mushroom steak!!

Where I lived once my roommate went out on a lobster boat and came back with bags of lobsters. Boy what that good eating for us for a while. It was his first trip and you got paid in lobster since you were a new crew member. Fresh lobster and lots of it!

I love those! The only thing I couldn't take when we went digging for oysters and the men ate them raw!! Ugh- I still feel sick thinking about it.
