The War of the Rodents – Part MCDXIV
Yesterday I dragged the stuff for the hospital over. One 14x14x18 box, another a smidge larger (the first one was packed inside the second one when I received it) and a large shopping bag. I figured I had better take advantage of the fact that the corners were clear before the next snowfall.
So I wheeled into Bellevue. The smaller box completely filled my shopping cart. The larger box was balanced on top. And I was carrying the Lord and Taylor's shopping bag. I was wearing a pair of ratty pants and a pea coat. I looked like a bag lady. I wheeled past a guard (who gave me a once over) and up to the Information Desk. The clerk looked at my cart as I approached and said I wanted to donate that stuff to Social Services. Ahhhh -- go to the ER and ask the guard there.
So I wheeled into the ER. For a change it wasn't "standing room only" so I was able to roll to the front. I stopped to let a triage nurse and a family past, then I reached the desk. After I got the look again and I explained, he pointed out which office was Social Services. They were delighted to get the stuff (donations are down.)
Back home I was able to slide the two chairs, stacked, from the table into the space vacated by the cart. This gave me room to start organizing stuff and clearing the entry hall. In the evening I decided to open the coat closet (had to move my
vaping cabinet). This closet had been cleaned and scrubbed about a month ago.
The long coats are now in my clothes closet (well Lysoled). The suitcase and sewing machine are in the entry hall (washed and Lysoled.) The floor has been scrubbed and disinfected — again. Time to look at the linen closet (and the shoe racks on the bottom.) One pair of fuzzy slippers is now in the trash. A couple of pairs of shoes need to be vacuumed (just in case) and Lysoled.) And all the rest are piled in the entry hall. So much for room to organize in.
But I am aiming to do laundry today. Including all the things that were clean but which need to be washed thanks to my murine visitors, it should be about 237 loads – give or take a load or two. I got a couple of large bags of it into the cart, freeing up some bedroom space.
This
morning afternoon, when I awoke, I turned on the light, sat up and tried to get the cramp out of my right thigh. On the other side of the bedroom, a little mouse ran along the length of the mirrored cupboard. On Sunday I blocked, poisoned and bled over the entrance to the mouse area so, when he reached the end, he turned the corner and ducked into the space behind the cupboard on that side. Because the cupboards are
three separate entities, there isn’t any access to the mouse area (on the left) from behind the cupboard on the right. So, a moment later, the mouse reappeared. He sat in the space between the far right cupboard and a trunk for almost a minute. He then retraced his steps along the length of the cupboard, returned and popped behind the right cupboard again.
It was very cute.
There is now a glue trap along the wall where the right cupboard ends.
