I think you're right. God forbid we have peace on earth!
Yeah - another context where 'optimistic' isn't applicable

I could think of a few more 'tics' that might fit though. In fact, (warning - history lesson

I was just reading (read:listening to a book on cd) a book on Joseph Priestley - who, among other things 'discovered'* of oxygen but more importantly, to me, a friend and associate of Franklin, Jefferson and Adams. He belonged to a group of industrialists, natural philosophers, scientist who formed the 'Lunar Society' in Birmingham England. They called themselves the 'lunaticks'

Priestley's naturalism was a significant influence on Jefferson esp. and Adams to a slightly lesser degree. He is mentioned over 50 times in their complete correspondance vs. just 5 times for Franklin, Washington and Hamilton. Priestley was also partially responsible for the charges against Jefferson as being an atheist, mainly because of the misunderstandings -intentional and unintentional - of Jefferson's political enemies.... although both Tom and Joe were almost the dictionary defintion of 'deists'. And Priestly was a unitarian minister.
