And one of the reasons why it's such a great spectator sport. :p:p:laugh:

Finally Zelda posted a picture I like looking at. Thanks, Z.

In the basement, not hooked to cable, I have a smaller Samsung and get all local digital stations (but I'm in open country) with a Futura antenna from Target.
Outdoor antenna, even on our terraces = lease violation + eviction.
The Mohu Leaf looks promising (even though TV is no longer next to a window.)

The one I have is indoor although I suppose you could put it outdoors.

I have a couple Acer monitors, found them middle of the road in quality and price, seem ok. Strange thing, I liked the LCD picture better than the LED backlit, which seemed a little powdery to me.

There's diffferent types of LED some backlit, some edge lit but odd that you'd find it 'powdery' in that it is what the backlight addresses mainly - contrast. I have an older LED thin rear projector - entirely different than the "LED/LCD" type. With my bank of south facing window - even though I do have shades, I needed something that wouldn't reflect. Something that people sometimes only 'consider' when the TV comes home  :)

Chances are if jj's is '3D compatible' it's a LED backlit type.

And I wasn't trying to be funny.

Yup, that's what I meant to say - contrast. I found my new LED backlit lacking compared to the old LCD model, though they also call this new one LCD-backlit-LED. So what is it? This is what I got when it was on sale: CompUSA.com | S231HL bid | Acer S231HL bid 23 Widescreen LED Monitor.

The one I do is make sure all my screens are anti-glare when I shop. My LCD TV and monitor both are. The TV sits by a west facing wall of windows and no problems.

I giggled at that, too.

The LGs have a matte screen which is a plus for me. Back in the days of real photos, I always got matte rather than gloss.

There are so many factors that affect picture quality. And your older LCD may have had other factors affecting it than the backlighting. Monitors have been backlit for longer than TV's have been - and which likely led to TV's using some backlit scheme. And the contrast should be better with both backlit and edge back lit TVs. But on monitors, pixel pitch and refresh rate (and resolution of course) really affect pic quality, and with reading text and fine photo editing, a low pixel pitch is necessary for sharp text and accurate masks, selections and other things that go beyond the scope here.

It looks like the acer has a decent pixel pitch at .265mm. Mine (HP) is .255mm. The suggested range is anything below .28mm, but for me, and some of this is subjective or 'eye condition' I've had trouble with anything above where the HP is at.. On monitors, video cards come into play and for example with photoshop, it's suggest that you take certain "default" settings on the vid card to zero - ie. the ones that are attempting to reach some kind of muddy middle. And matching res, refresh rate and certain accelerations have an effect as well. Again TMI for normal use, I suppose.

Some early Sony LCD's didn't have antiglare - I think most have that option now. But some without light problems prefer one without it.
