When my dad wants to "watch TV", it means it's nap time for him. He'd blast the TV and fall asleep. I go turn down/off the TV and his eyes pop right open!

My Gramma (bless her soul), would close her eyes when she would sit to watch TV. We would wait a bit, and say "Gramma...Are you sleeping?" She would open her eyes up immediately and say, " No, I'm just resting my eyes." Yes...she was sleeping. I don't think that she ever wanted to admit that she took short "naps".
