There is a New England expatriot enclave where I was invited to go. So I would have felt somewhat at home.

There are quite a few ex New Englanders on the west coast, Nora. Most are in California, but I have a friend that I grew up with in Oregon. There is a guy, that I talk to sometimes on ham radio, who lives in Northern California. He is originally from Central Falls, RI, where my family came from and where I spent the early years of my life. We have some great conversations, when conditions allow coast to coast contact.
So I seriously think that Thy is avoiding this thread! Hmmmm, can't imagine why! LOL Poor guy, keeps getting dragged into our shenanigans!
I used to talk on the CB years and years and years ago...but never ham radio. My uncle did though.
I thought they had come back. I saw Zelda and Ces for one short minute. I'm enjoying myself over here. I'm too old for much of that over there! I'll have a heart attack!
My friend who moved to So. Cal. was in a restaurant and made a comment to his (late) wife, that some Californians were very strange. Their waiter overheard his comment and agreed with him. It turns out that the waiter is originally from RI, he must have recognized my friends accent. Too funny !!!
Yep we did CB too...dad was Flakey Dandruff...mom was Driftwood, oldest bro was Hannibal Hayes, and I was Kid Curry.
Well Jerry...I was trying to be nice about it! The word I was thinking of is far worse than the one you used! LOL I have relatives that live there. That's all I'll say on that!!!

I started on CB, nico, well actually my first time on two way radio was in a police cruiser, but that's another story and an innocent one, I was only 9 or 10 years old.
