I have to chug it - it'll probably start snowing and I'll have to run out and shovel.
I'm with you, Ralph. Not based on Wikipedia -- I've always known that a landline was the thing the phone company installed that ended up at a jack in your home as opposed to cell phones that don't have any wiring other than their chargers. (In this case "always" means "ever since I've been aware that there was such a thing as a cell phone.")
Hate cell phones. I rarely even remember to charge mine. I have a hard time understanding what people are saying when they are on them. My cordless phone has it's main base in the entry hall and I have one extra unit in the living room where I always am. But my Dad, who lives in a one bedroom apartment has a non-cordless in the kitchen (the retirement community he lives in installs those), one cordless in the living room and two in the bedroom. Part of that is that it takes him 4 or 5 rings to get out of his chair and then a minute or so to walk across the room so he has one near each place he regularly sits. Ralph, could it be that your Dad is beginning to slow down and feels he can't get to the phone in the next room quickly enough?

I am no longer cautiously optimistic. I just spent 45 minutes pulling apart the sofa and vacuuming it again. Everything but the mattress is in a bag to be washed.
