No wired in the wall. I don't want to attach it into the wall, I want to hardwire a cord in so that I can hang it and plug it into an outlet.
We used to have super ugly ceiling fixtures in the alcove that took two 60W. A few years ago I put two 75W fluorescent coil bulbs in and it was very happy. About 6 months ago they replaced them all with new, much prettier ones that use round fluorescent bulb. As the guy was adjusting it I said that it gave off much less light than the old one and he said "really?" and finished tightening all the screws.
It gives off enough light that I don't kill myself walking from the living room to the bedroom but not much more. It's supposed to be the dining area but I'm not sure I'd be able to recognize food under that dim glow. The bulbs in my old one were almost 2 years old. These died after about 6 months (and some in the building died sooner.) And I'm going to bet the replacement bulbs are expensive.
Depending on the price of the bulbs, I was thinking a new fixture might be cost effective but, when looking at Home Depot on line I saw this one which I think MIGHT look nice on the wall behind my table so it would be a source of light
and a decoration. Then I could replace the overhead ones once and only use it occasionally.
I was in HD today and asked if it could be on a wall and she said yes. I asked if it had a cord and she said I'd have to hardwire it and the wire would have to have a switch. So… It's one of those projects that might never happen. If it's hard to do, I drop the idea. If it's easy, it stays in the "might possibly do some day" pile.
