The cemetery my nephew is in is like that. I think it makes for a more peaceful, beautiful place but a large part of why they do it is that it makes maintenance much easier. They can just mow rather than hand trim around the base of all the stones.

Thanks for the input everyone. So that fixture is out -- I like it for the wall but not the ceiling. I guess I'll get replacement bulbs for the current one and see what happens. If they burn out in a few months again, I'll find a ceiling fixture I like.

and if/can use those saver bulbs,get the highest wattage !
they take a bit to get to full brightness but they are very good+very cost effective!
