About the dog food.. my $.02: I cook a whole chicken in the pressure cooker. Then run that (bones and all) through the food processor plus carrot, potatoes, green beans, cooked liver and rice. The terrorists love it!

I fed mine raw, and she was very healthy because of it. About 8 ounces of chicken backs a day with some occasional turkey giblets thrown in. Dogs werent designed to eat cereal.

Hi Jerry! Yeah, I was doing that last winter cause I could barely afford the dog food and we had the swamp thing and the pugs here with the chi's and boxer, it was much cheaper and they loved it. That reminds me BS, I did add veges to that.
Jerry, I'll admit, I've eaten it, its pretty good.

BS, that's a good recipe too. If I ever get a food processor I'll try it. My dogs are rednecks though, they still need cornmeal mush added! ;)

I disagree with you, they need their veges and wild dogs will eat vegetation. Corn, well, it slicks them up and if you have an ailing dog the meal is very helpful to keep weight on them. I tried the pure meat/vegetable thing, lasted a week, they were all acting as if they were being starved. You gotta throw in some green stuff Ralph. My dane use to go outside just to graze every day.

Thanks! My understanding is their digestive tract is so short, they need things (other than slow-digesting meat) ground very finely to absorb things like veggies. I never tasted it, but I'll admit to knowing I would eat it if I had few options. All but the pig liver smelled great cooking, too!

Oh, well she wouldnt eat much in the way of the veggies. Dogs eat a wider variety than cats thats for sure. But neither were made to eat cereals. My cats do like to chew on some grass now and then but dont actually consume any of it.

Maybe it's because our meat supply is completely out of the natural food chain. If you raised your own free range chickens (turkeys would get lost and never come back home) or captured deer for them, that would add the full cycle, wouldn't it? (( taps temple to stimulate brain matter on the dogfood crisis ))

I must say... I've never seen the attraction that others of my kind have for grass...

:laugh::laugh:

Thanks!!! (( I think )) LOL

Yes it is a compliment...LOL

Well, they are like people Ralph, the chi's pretty much live on chicken and are pickier than any cat. I demand that the cat feed himself, not so much that he is old. His favorite is fresh chipmunk. Not pleasant to watch though.

Oh yuck!!!!
