NYC
New York City and the automotive industry thought the same way -- give them what they want today. When it comes due, we won't be in these jobs anyway. In NY a policeman can retire on full pay after 20 year. I believe the police have a tough job and deserve a good deal, but now most of them retire at 45 so there are no experienced cops teaching the young ones and the pensions take a bigger bite out of the budget than the salaries do.

Teacher's unions protected their members so well that there are no jobs for good, new teachers because they can't get rid of incompetent ones. (They should protect people from being fired on a whim or for being older, but don't protect people just because they managed to get hired in the first place.)

Norrie, in terms of abusing their power, the Teamsters are one of the all-time champions but, if they hadn't been around for the last hundred years, what makes you think your old position would have paid more than the minimum wage?

The REAL Washington
When I went upstairs to the office and got out of the union, I took a very small cut in pay. For a shipping clerk, I make decent money. But I am actually way more than that now. But I hate it when worthless workers are protected. Just sayin. And it happens a lot. Yes the unions can help. But they have gotten way out of hand.

Woot!!!! Congrats Classy!!!

Today is going to be something else.
Yes, hubby is a bit loopy right now with the pain meds, but it's just a bit irritating that he wakes me up because he can't sleep. Of course he went to bed with the birds last night. And of course, after being up for a while, he is back in bed snoring away.
AND I'm awake and it's 6:27 in the morning and I had no reason to be up this early!!! :grr:
