So, after I signed the White House petition re e-cigs (they don't make it easy. You have to register, log out and log back in…) I tweeted about it. A House-friend said she smokes very occasionally and wants some guidance. She wants to spend very little, get lots of "smoke" and very low nicotine. And a budget of <$50. Much less if possible.

Ever try to explain vaping 140 characters at a time? I gave her some basics, told her my user name here is the same as there and, in closing, said that if she knows how to solder, she can make her own. She said she can use some practice but she did put her own pickups in a guitar (whatever that means.) So, once she joins, I'm going to need you guys to help me point her to the right threads. (Ralph, I'm especially jealous that your vape-toids use regular rechargeable batteries rather than Li-ion ones.)

I don't think cartos are the way to go for an occasional smoker/vaper. You fill it up, put it away for a couple of days and when you pick it up again it's all dried and gunky. I'm recommending dripping.

We will help in any way that we can. :) I hate texting detailed stuff like that. I know the frustration. :grr::grr::grr: Just telling a kid why she is grounded via text is such a hassle.

The regular AA rechargable batteries simplify things considerably. :)

Electric guitars have these tiny coils called pickups which detect the vibrations of the strings. The pickups convert those vibes into a sine wave signal suitable for amplification. I imagine that if she has the skills to solder those little things then she can probably make a mod. :)

Under $50 huh.... Hmmmm.... ... OK, it IS possible. :D

Why wouldn't it be? Looking at Mad Vapes: battery box = $1.49; contacts = $1.49; spring = $0.70; switches = <$2.00; connector = $1.00. That's $8. I know I missed a few items but would the total for the parts be more than double that?

A couple of atomizers at $6 each, batteries and liquid. I gave her links to Deej & Kickbass for vendors who make good 6mg liquid at a good price (and deej offers tiny bottles.) :D

If she goes with lithiums, then it will work. The problem with the AA's is that it takes 4 of them to do the job. Even though the battery box can hold four, getting the connector and switch into a full battery box is a major challenge... The 'toid tins have that extra room for switch, connector, and if you keep it real tight, room for a couple of XL cartos on one end.

Have her look up "The Puck". Probably a great place to start if trying to stay under $50.

I have to crash out. Have a great night Jane. :)

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta started this morning. I slept through. There is a web camera on the field that may have some interesting live shots over the next week. I will put the camera link in my sig. It runs thru the 9th, with activities in the early morning and evening on most of those days. Schedule is here. Times are Mountain. Weather is the wildcard.
