Back from shopping I got rained on a bit but nothing bad.
The sun is actually trying to shine and it looks like the rest of the storm is going to stay above us!!!

Sounds good Jan. Late last night it snowed here a bit then rained so all the snow was gone. If you didn't see the news here, you wouldn't have known it snowed

On a older drill.

There is three holes on the side. Put a Phillips screwdriver in one of them. Below is a collar with serrated edges, use a regular screwdriver in one of the notches. Turn the regular screwdriver so the collar moves counter clockwise.

If it's a newer one, just put it in reverse.

Good luck and directions are from DH so I hope you understand.

This makes absolutely nothing to me so good luck!!!

It actually makes some sense. I was trying an Allen wrench where I should have used a Phillips. I went downstairs to see if the maintenance guys have a key (which is what the Phillips replaces.) No one was there. I'll try again in a couple of minutes (they leave at 4) and if I don't find them, I'll try your husband's method. Thanks.

Poetry in motion...and an epic post! ;)

DH has drill all over the place--old and new.

I actually got the drift of what he was talking about which is in itself scary since I really don't want to know that much about drills!

It is scary!

Found the handyman. He's about 62 years old, 5' tall and speaks very broken English (he's Italian.) He said "Maybe you no need that" and he took the drill and opened it by twisting it. I showed him the screw I needed to make a hole for and he picked a bit from my collection and put it in.

He showed me how to do it (hold drill handle in left, turn the front part counter clockwise to open) but I tried and it doesn't work for me.

I now have 2 drills and no keys. Maybe I'll buy one. But I use a drill so rarely.

My first is a Black & Decker that my Dad once got from a bank. The bit that's stuck in that one is very big. I use it a few times a year. I buy those balsa chew sticks and drill a hole in each of them that's big enough for a leather string to go through. Poeia's not much for playing with toys but she does like to chew those. Whenever she polishes off all the ones hanging on her leather thing, I replace them.

This Black & Decker I brought back from Dad's on Friday. It's much better quality than the other. No idea where/when he lost the key.

The keys shouldn't cost that much so I'd get one because you'll wish you had the next time you need it....even if it's ten years from now.

Except 10 years from now...

1. The key could be misplaced a number of times and she'd have to buy another.
2. She could have picked up a chuckless drill anywhere along the way, currently $25.
3. She may not want to mess with it herself.

:) :)
