We had Dish network back in 2002. Got rid of that and just have OTA now. Heck, the amount of content in a standard 30 minute sitcom has shrunk down to 20 minutes now. So, that's 10 minutes of commercials. :(

I had them too!! They wouldn't let me upgrade to HD, wanted $100. I complained that they gave it to new subscribers for FREE! Finally, I canned them...at which time they offered to upgrade me...for free. :grr:

If you go back to older sitcoms like Bewitched, there were < 5 minutes of ads. Argh....

Yep. I think Father Knows Best and Leave it to Beaver ran 26+ minutes. Now, I have all of the Big Bang Theory on DVD, and a few of them have run times in the teens.

I love the DVR for skipping through commercials.
But don't mind them when I got stuff to do because then I actually get stuff done. Or keep caught up here!

Glad you're feeling better jj.

DVR's rule - I've told this before but I didn't know what a Swiffer was because of VCRs and DVRs. Cousin named his dog Swiffer, "you know like a Swiffer" - I hadn't a clue. They couldn't believe it. I go thru CSI's in about 30 minutes - fast forward through the 'lab music' - either me or DW will call out 'lab music' and then fast forward until you see someone's going to talk. I don't really watch 'TV', I watch 'DVR'. No local news - or rarely. Blue Bloods and House are the only ones I care about seeing and House has been a disappointment lately. Guilty pleasures - Survivor and Amazing Race - although I could drop Amazing Race and not look back.

Hi Ralph!!

True. It's eroding into one big commercial break.

Some of the newer TV's are internet ready and will stream directly. The TV in my living room wont do that, but we have an XBox. I would just have to get the MS Gold subscription to do netflix on it. But with Netflix you can only stream one program per account at a time, and then I couldn't watch what I want. So, oh well. Those poor children of mine.

 It's getting even worse.

I don't even call watching a movie on TV a "movie". I'm a movie fan, so I can't stand it when they cut it to fit time, TV frame, etc. :glare: Like it uncut, widescreen.

And it is getting worse. We can hook up the computer to the TV and watch that way.
The bad thing, I lose the computer when DH wants to watch something and that is a lot.

We have 3 puters, new $300 one dedicated to TV, rest are decade old.
