Some will remember, but most...no. I had 90% + customer loyalty when consulting, but it's still dollars and cents.
You got that right. I had a fairly large construction company (100+ users) fall out from under me about a year and a half ago. I had been kissing their asses for about 4 years, coming in and doing most of the maintenance at night, always on call 24 x 7. They were very happy with me. But another firm promised them the world at a flat rate per server and workstation. It was way more than my average cost, but it was a "predictable" cost. Well, they don't get the same level of service but are locked into a contract. I'm not sure I would work for them after that if they asked me.
It was a lesson learned. You can have the happiest customer and then someone can sell them a bag of
