Welcome and glad you joined.
Best advice I can give is start simple and try to learn every basic part of vaping, then step up (if you must) to advance ways of vape.
The Kanger Evod Starter Kit is one of the best starters. It comes with two batteries, one to vape with and a backup if needed.

I would hardly call the Evod starter kit one of the best. Some years ago, yes, but not today. Outdated tank (potential problems with overheating of liquid etc), no adjustments of power settings. Something like a Eleaf Pico kit would be much better.

i strted with a xmok al85 ..easy to use can top fill easy and use with different coils/tanks for MTL and DL ...since brought the bigger smok alien 220w for using my bigger tanks and higher wattage coils, also brought a nice innokin mini coolfire for its small convenient size, topped with a nautilus 2 tank ...no complaints or problems so far with any of my kit ..

Personally, i started with a Sigeli Fuchai 200w. It was a perfect starter for me as I enjoy the clouds. A good friend of mine just got their first one and started off with the Smok Baby Alien kit, and she absolutely loves it. The baby beast tank is a decent cloud and awesome flavor. The mod itself doesn't go above 85w I believe, and it's a single battery.

Many thousands of people started with a modest box mod and gentle DTL tank capable of MTL at a push.
The iStick with an Eleaf tank (or Nautilus) or Joyetech mod with a eGo/tron tank became the 'normal' for people who went to vape shops rather than a grocery store.
If you can tolerate the vapor of a higher power device and want to switch from smoking to e-cigs, then a box mod is a better long-term proposition for money, quality of vapor and reliability.

The setup I use is perfect for a beginner, Smoant Battlestar with a Uwell crown tank. The biggest thing with these mods is battery safety. Anything else a beginner can figure our pretty quickly with trial and error. With the batteries trial and error doesn't work because error can mean dangerous thermal runaway. Just make sure you buy batteries from a good vendor and get a charger that's reputable from a good vendor. The Battlestar is a dual 18650 so get four batteries at least. Get either the Samsung 30q or the LG hg2 from orbtronic.com because they are a trustworthy vendor and best price. They are approximately $5 a piece. Get an xtar charger from either orbtronic or imr.com or batteryjunction.com. Read the links brotherbob has provided, be safe, and have fun.
