Hi all,

I'm almost a 30 year user of moist smokeless tobacco. It was mostly Skoal, but for the last few years, I switched to Redseal. I've heard about the dangers most of those years. I assumed that the e-cigs would be a safer alternative to satisfy my nicotine habit. I actually ordered the Joye510 starter kit, and have been able to quit for the first time. I tried quitting multiple times over the years, unsuccessfully.

Merely from a health standpoint, did I make a good choice, or would I have been better off sticking with the snuff? Recently I have tried Snus, and it too satisfies my cravings, but in the long run I hope to be able to quit everything.

Thanks

You have made your first steps into a larger world...

While the jury is still out on how harmful Non-tobacco, Nicotine-Substitute/Replacement products are, it is obvious that they are far less harmful than their tobacco counterparts. I'm sure a trade-off is in there somewhere, but cancer is what we are trading out of, so we are all making progress:)

Yep. I think anyways. You see I used to chew and dip when in the service. I had to have this thing cut off the inside of my lip where I used keep my pinch. There's a host of related mouth diseases (teeth and gums) from chew and dip.
With vaping, we don't really know yet all the health issues, but, for those of us that smoked most of our life, so far, vaping is way less dangerous. We've even had improved health since switching from butts.

Congratulations on taking action toward a healthier life, JB292. While chew has it's elevated risks, study after study shows smoking to have the highest risk to developing oral cancers, as well as others, and includes heart disease. Chew/dip is far safer than smokes, regardless of the horror stories from anti-tobacco Nazi's.

PV's don't have any long term studies to back any claims to harm reduction, but it's impossible to believe they're not safer than smokes and probably chew.

Swedish snus has the studies to back-up its harm reduction and the only adverse effects proven is that it's addictive.

If you feel the 510 doesn't keep you away from chew/dip, read this http://www.snuson.com/viewtopic.php?t=4014. It's from an ex-dipper turned to snus use.

    Somewhere between here and there
Well, I was going to jump in on this one but TV has pretty much said what I was going to. If vaping alone does it for you then that's great. If not then Swedish snus is proven to be pretty safe and can be a good filler for what e-liquid doesn't provide. Some of us need a combination of things. Good luck.

    Hi all,

It would be highly doubtful that there is any health benefit to PV's over snus. There are many unknowns in the PV world. The long term effect of inhaling large amounts of PG/VG is unknown and there are indicators that it may not be as benign as first thought.

My feeling is that as a current dipper, if you are looking for a healthier alternative snus would be a very good choice. From a strictly health perspective there is no reason to be messing with PV's. Read the above dippers guild to snus and educate yourself before jumping to far into the PV world. PV's can get expensive, there is lots of messing around with batteries, cleaning, e-liquid, etc. That, plus many people have come to the conclusion that PV's are just not very satisfying long term. There is an itch it doesn't scratch that leaves many feeling dissatisfied. Snus is about a clean a source of tobacco as you can get with no connection to any oral cancer.

The best thing to do is keep yourself open to all the reduced harm alternatives. You seem to be doing just fine in that regard so no doubt you will find something that works long term.
