Well there are 2 types of ceramic wick, porous and silica like. The porous ceramic is like a brittle rod and the other looks a bit like silica , kind of white strand like. SS mesh looks like metal sheets, kind of a finer version then what's in the end of a sink faucet (that little round strainer that catches the unwanteds in water). They all require different methods of wicking then cotton...the stranded ceramic usually gets wrapped with a coil, rather then it being threaded into a coil...porous ceramic is usually made for genesis attys and same for mesh...mesh however can be adapted into an rta and rda and now there are rda's that use a big piece and cotton.Yes, it's a highly individual thing. I've been using the Siren V2 for what, like 3 days now? Fairly heavily, but I'm using the same juice (which is actually rather dark) but so far my wick is just fine... Some wicking methods (I have some ceramic wick, I think it is, either that or mesh, that I want to try at some point, seem to last even longer than that, which is interesting. I believe it can also be dry burned. Rayon's resistance compared to cotton is pretty great-- I haven't tried flavor changing in it yet to see what might happen, but so far I'm impressed....
