For the purpose of not cluttering another thread with something off topic.... I noticed that eHuman posted the following and I'd like to discuss it further...

What ever you bing (s.b. bind ) on earth "will have already been bound" in Heaven. What ever you loose on earth will "have already been loosed" in Heaven.

Interesting! I didn't know that it was phrased that way. I like it.
So... that poses a question.... (perhaps off topic but hey, we've veered off topic some time ago.) I've often pondered that because of the completed work of Christ on the cross, and the scriptures that say we are a new creation in Christ .... Is it possible that, because of Jesus, we are NOW all that we are ever going to be, new creatures, a completed work... and we just don't know it yet?

And IF we could only grasp a "mustard seed" of understanding of who we really are.... that we are fully righteous, fully powerful and complete, we could literally move mountains? For example, as winter approaches, I've been considering the possibility that I don't "need to be healed" of a cold or flu when I catch it.... I'm actually not that creature that catches a cold or flu anymore. And not being that creature... it simply isn't a part of me. Potentially, I am not a creature that needs to be healed... I am a healthy creature.

To add fuel to the mix.... regarding our understanding of who we really are..... by experience, and scripture, I've come to believe that we still sin because we are afraid not to. (let that one sink in a little) i.e. If we knew and believed who we really are in Christ... we would do nothing contrary to the Spirit and we would exhibit only His fruit. We would not fear trusting God AND we would not fear trusting ourselves because God is in us. In truth, when we trust ourselves, we are trusting God in us to be the manifestation of his love. But when we fear, we fail to do that which we know is truth.

Einstein said "(our temperal) reality is simply a very persistent illusion".
Your thoughts?

I think eHuman's comment was a typo and i forgot to fix it. Scripture says in the NIV (and others) whatever you "bind" on earth will be bound in heaven etc.... It is found in Matt 16:19 & 18:18 I think this means that if you have a sense of the authority you have in Christ, that when you set things in motion on earth, they are supported and set in motion in heaven. In a sense, God not only has your back but he will move on your behalf.

Of course this is kind of a rough scripture to understand fully because it poses a lot of questions. "Do you mean that God will do what I say?", "What if I bind or loose something and it's the wrong thing to do?", "How does my will come into play according to God's will?" Jesus was talking to Peter. And while we suppose that Jesus' inference was that it was meant for all of us, if we look at it in context, Jesus was talking specifically to Peter about building the church upon "this rock". Some say the rock was Peter, others say the rock was the foundation that Jesus was and is the Christ.

Mt 16: 13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
14They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.
18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

For the purpose of this thread, I was focusing on his statement that in a more literal translation it appears that the inference is that the work will have already been completed prior to us even doing the binding or loosing. This could be because of God's foreknowledge and him taking a proactive postion with what we will bind or loose.

But it also seems like it speaks to the already completed work of Christ on the Cross. I frequently wonder if we don't under-estimate the magnitude of what Christ did on the cross. We see it as salvation, sure. But it appears to be so much more. It is also our victory here on earth. It is of such magnitude that we really can't percieve the completness of it.

I don't know if you are a Matrix fan... If so, do you remember the point in the movie where Neo actually begins to believe who he is. Not who he was in the "reality" of the matrix... but really who he is.

What if, because of Jesus, we are so much more than we think? So much more even than we hope to believe someday? What if the completed work of Christ really made us new creations who are no longer subject to the reality of this world? If that were true, then our only real problem is that we don't know who we are, really. And if we did know or even if we considered that it might be possible, we would be so much less fearful.... so much more at peace. So much more in tune with our Creator that we could "cast mountains into the sea". (whatever those mountains looked like)

Am I making any sense?

Exactly!!!! (Hallelujah!) You just answered your own question HyOnLyph!!!! As long as we ABIDE in Christ and HE abides in us and we walk in fruit bearing obedience... we can TRUST our actions because we are only 'acting' as He 'wills' us to act.
Wow! That was both beautiful AND powerful!!!! You've GOT it!... (I need a triple thumbs up Emoticon here! lol)

You've just gotten to the point where you don't identify "yourself" as your physical body. Some people never get this! You, or what makes you "you", isn't your flesh and blood. Your body is just your vehicle to get around in this world. But, what makes you "you" is your soul, and it's that soul that leaves the body when you die and continues on into the spiritual realm which we call heaven and hell. :)

I'm with you on this. But let's consider that when Jesus said we are a new creation, that it might be possible in our flesh as well as our spirit. (I wouldn't be a bit surprised if one day science is able to reveal that our DNA is different than pre-crucifixion people.) What if, when Jesus prayed and said "Father, let them be one with us, the way that you and I are one", it was accomplished on the cross? What if, the only reason we experience sickness is because we believe we are still the people that get sick? It effects the whole being. It is interesting to imagine that if I could wrap my heart around this possibility, it would bring a whole new meaning to phrase "catch a cold". I'd have to slow down and lay hold of (literally catch) a cold because otherwise, it would have no part of me.

What if we quit worrying about "becoming" and simply allowed ourselves to "be" who we already are (in Christ)?

Because just "Being" is a stagnant state. Becoming is a progression and the Bible tells us to continue to learn, study and seek knowledge of Him. Learning and maturing in Christ are important and necessary. :)

Allowing yourself to just 'be' means you've obtained perfection. That's just not going to happen in our earthly vessels. We are growing in our Christian walk, and where there is growth, there's nothing stagnant. The only way we will obtain perfection is after we go through the Judgment Seat of Christ. I really don't get the point of this whole question. The human body is going to continue to get sick no matter what plane you're on. Or did I not understand the question? That's always a possibility???????

Or did you mean to separate the trinity within yourself? Of course I don't see what the purpose is in that. It takes all three parts to make a whole. Maybe I should just shut up now.

Ooh such a great subject Hy!!I wish I had more time to visit with you all on this topic...hope you're all around in the next couple of days to chat about it :)....Right now I'll ask my brothers and sisters here to pray for my family....my dad had a rather large heart attack this morning, they live with us in an inlaw apartment and he didn't let anyone know how bad he was really feeling until around 9 am....he was in full blown heart attack within minutes of me calling 911..which was within about 1 minute of first laying my eyes on him.
God was truly with us....praise His name.....my dad had a angiogram done with angioplasty and it's looking good...please pray for strength, praise, joy and faith during this time...for my entire family and God could use this opportunity for those that have stepped away from the flock to see their need for Him.
BTW...my dad is so awesome, he adopted my sisters and I when we were wee little and took us as his own...loved us, set a great example...I love him so much. He loves the Lord so I know where he's going when he passes, but my selfish self wants to keep him around as long as possible....His name is Leonard and my mom's name is Margaret...please pray for her also, she is in very frail health condition and is truly a walking miracle...more to come later, back up to the hospital now.
I am so thankful for you all ~ Lanette

No just being is anything but a stagnant state. I didn't stay stopping. I just said being. As in being what we were made at the cross.... truly carrying the image of Christ.... have all authority the way the Bible says. Walking as if we had nothing to fear. Treating others as if they couldn't hurt us emotionally or in any way apart from the will of God (just like Jesus) and all we had to give them was love. Imagine if this is true, then it is a simple thing to cast a mountain into the sea. It would be one of the smallest acts of our belief... like the mustard seed Jesus spoke of. The greater acts of our belief (or faith) might be having dominion over the spirit world as well.

regarding learning and growing.... we could spend a lifetime unlearning who we thought we were and realizing and practicing who we really are. But at least we'd be doing it with the right understanding.

Lanette... our prayers are with you, your father and the whole family.

Saintcruiser...
I have no idea what you mean by trinity (small t) within ourselves. BUT.....

I know what you are saying about perfection and not getting it "until". But that isn't really what Jesus said. That is quite possibly the stuff we've accepted because we couldn't understand why we are sick when the Bible says "by His stipes you WERE healed". Not "will be" healed but WERE.... past tense. Accomplished, Done, Finito... ;) What if, the Judgement Seat of Christ is not about perfection but about eternity. That is where our body puts on imortality the way Jesus did. Jesus was perfect while he was alive. He loved perfectly without fear. He was never sick and had dominion of all sickness as well as all spirit entities. His prayer for us was that we would be one with God the way that Jesus was one with the Father. THAT is a lot of oneness.

Think of your spirituality as water. Stagnant water becomes putrid over time, and bacteria grow and multiply and pollute the water so it's not safe to drink. Water that is moving forward is fresh, full of life giving oxygen, clean and healthy.
Jesus referred to water many times.

Ohhh!!! one of my favorites.. Yes Jesus refered to water... but he said we would be the source of the water. Not that we would be like the water. or stagnant. "out of your bellies will flow rivers of Living Water.". Yes Jesus is the source in that he gave it to us... he accomplished our transformation on the cross. But The Spirit within us... in a very real way WE (being one in the Spirit) are the sources of Living Water to a thirsty world.
What if Jesus and subsequently the Spirit gave us all the Living Water we could ever handle 2000+ years ago?

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to
test and approve what God's will is -- his good, pleasing, and
perfect will.
-- Romans 12:2

A wonderful, awesome scripture.... what do you think it means?

I've missed so much in such a short time lol. Let me outline where/how the translation comes from in this post (in case anyone becomes curious of its origin or validity).

I'm going to dig a little in the parsing code to explain this but I'll try to make it user friendly. Parsing code (attached or embedded in a Greek word) gives the voice, tense, and mood of a word.
Voice; Active, middle, passive.
active=doer of action, middle=performs act on self, passive=act is performed on.
So if "boy, ball, and hit" are the words used:
(for the word "hit")
active = the boy hit the ball.
middle= the boy hit himself with the ball.
passive= the boy was hit by the ball.

If 3rd person, plural, active is used on "boy" it would read, "the boys hit the ball.

Perspective; 1st person, 2nd person, 3rd person.
Singular; me/I/my, you/your, her/him/he/she/that.
Plural; we/us, you/y'all/all y'all, them/they

Tense: past, present, future, perfect, Imperfect

^ I won't line out all the rules but the above as an example of how the Greek is translated.

Here is the King James and the NASU versions so you can see how they translated it:

Matt 16:19
whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
KJV

Matt 16:19
whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven."
NASU

You see in the two translations it can appear that it is saying two different things.
KJV can be seen as saying if you bind/loose it here, it will then be bound/loosed in Heaven.
NASU looks more like it is saying "If you do it here, it was already done in Heaven".

In the Greek word "leluména" translates to "shall be loosed" (in Heaven).
The parsing on the word is:
Perfect tense:"The action has already been completed and the actor is at rest". I.E. The action is done and it's results remain. Christ' work on the cross is rendered in the "perfect tense". The results of that action will remain forever.
Passive voice:The actor performs the action on itself. The actor = Heaven.

Note that it is not rendered in the future tense "will be", and that it is not rendered in the past tense "has been", but the perfect tense, "has been completed and the results can currently be seen in Heaven".

This is a lot tougher to simplify than I thought it would be.

Hopefully you can see the subtle differences.

In one, a person can think that what ever he says, God will make happen.
In the other, What ever we happen to do will have already been completed in Heaven.

But look closely...
Jesus said in John 8:28
Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.NASU

When we are walking in the flesh then the things that we think and do are from the flesh.
When we are walking in the Spirit then the things that we say and do are of and from the Spirit of God.

As we mature we become more like Jesus and come to know His heart and the heart of the Father.

One way to look at this verse, is that as we are shown things by God we are to speak them. Like God saying, "I want you to announce what I am about to do".

We know that we cannot force God to do anything and especially if what we proclaim is against God's will. The immature ask for much that is not good.

In context of Mat 16:19 Jesus said He would give Peter the keys to the kingdom of God.
"key" in Greek represents "authority", "power of" and "ability".
And whatever he bound/loosed on earth it would have been bound/loosed in Heaven.

Keep in mind the context: Peter just told Jesus that "He was the Christ the Son of the living God". It is on this foundation that I will build my church. Then He warned the disciples not to tell anyone that He was the Christ (yet, it wasn't time).

And Jesus empowered the apostles with power and authority that He did not give to everyone for the purpose of building and founding the church.

In Matt 18:15-20 in context:
15 If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.
16 "But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED.
17 "If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
18 "Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.
19 "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.
20 "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."

If a brother is in sin and you go through all of the correct steps to attempt to convince him of his sin and he refuses to listen, then treat him as an unsaved person. You have now just declared what God already has. A saved person will have been convicted before this step and repented of the sin.

Again talking TO the disciples, (verse 19)
"Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.

The first two examples are specific cases, the last one looks like free reign for all.
Is God going to do something against His will if we get together and pray for it? Remember the anointing that the apostle had and that Jesus is talking to the apostles here in all three cases.

I think the more mature and in tune with God that we are though, the more we speak His will and this will apply to us. But nobody places ultimate unregulated power in the hands of the immature or evil.

"Let us make man in our own image".
Our sanctification conforms us to His image.

Even the immature get it right from time to time, and we experience God "moving" when we speak from time to time. Hmmmm.

It was asked, "I wonder what would happen if we really knew who we were in Christ?"
This question strung a chord in the center of my chest and brought me back a few years. This will seem a little unbelievable but take it for what it's worth (I gave a reader's digest version of an intense time that God allowed me to really commune with Him in a different thread).

On one day during that first initial intense period I was in prayer and praise and meditation. God started to open up a "picture of understanding" (best way I can describe it) and as I began to comprehend what it was He was showing me I realized just what the OP was asking. I felt as if, just as I fully understood what, why and how the manifest power of God works (just like it did in the apostles lives), (just as I began to really understand) that the door to that understanding was closed, the memory of "how" faded (like a screen wipe) in a few seconds but I was left remembering the event but not able to see the details. Does that make sense?

I genuinely believe that God allowed me to see "what would happen if we really knew who we were in Christ" for just long enough to recognize it. I couldn't tell you why, that was years ago. But I am left with the memory of, due to who we are in Him, if we truly understood the relationship - ALL of Gods children have that right now. Very few (if any?) tap into it.

With great power comes great responsibility and requires great wisdom and maturity to handle it. Remember John asking Jesus if he should call down lightning from the sky to smite? Kids will do alot of stuff to show off becasue they just can't help themselves.

My question is, I wonder how long it will take me to mature into "who I am in Christ"?
