I got a 5v PT (at least it said it was possible to use up to 5v with a 5v AC plug) with no inline battery from indyvaporshop.com
Model 510 Cord USB Pass-through
It arrived fine, its working, I can't test it to see if ifts a genuine 5v but I have it plugged into a USB/AC wall outlet thingy thats a 5v one.
Shipping was $5.

Cigtechs has the 510 passthrough w/o inline battery. Does that mean it'll operate at 5v?

You hit the nail on the head. Calling a connector with a cable a 5V PT is silly at best and a lie at worst. The CigTech PT is a good device, priced right, with a sturdy cord and is correctly labeled at a 510 PT, not 5V PT.

Using such a device the voltage will be determined by the current available and the resistance of the atty being used. With a Joye atty you'll need about 2.3A (2300mA) to get 5V. The cheaper clones, like the SLB/DSE/L2 types will need about 1.6A. Many folks recommend a powered USB hub. Make sure such a hub has at least a 2A power supply. If you look around you can find 5V 2000mA USB ac adapters. Those will power a Joye atty at about 4.4V.

As a side note I see that folks are calling the Joye PT with battery a 3.7V device. It is not. Under load it's at about 3.2V.

Would there be a significant benefit or downside to using my Joye 510 USB Passthrough with a 5V 2000mA USB ac adapter that you mentioned in the above post?

If it has a battery in it, there's no benefit or downside. If there is no battery, the supply current available sets the max current draw, so the benefit would be higher power on low resistance attys. No downside either way.

It's been a while since this was updated so I thought I'd check in and get your opinions. I was looking at the Smok Tech 5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough on MadVapes. I was thinking about getting it to use with these Boge 2.0 LR cartos I have. Do you think I'd be a happy customer? I currently use an eGo-t with these cartos and would like to experience higher voltage vaping I keep reading about.

Darn you guys, now you've made me want something else. :) I am still waiting on my starter kit, (due any minute) and I have ordered something or two everyday since I ordered the kit on Monday, I ordered a joye pass through lockable battery that I hope will be ok with some LR cartos I ordered. I think the 5v direct connect thing would be really good for at home use, I could use my kindle usb/ac adapter, so now I WANT that too. lol
