Tonight I went to a shop on the way home. I found a juice I liked (Bomb Vapor's Shimmer). The guy working there had the same juice loaded up in his mod. He had me try his before I left and HOLY SMOKES it was incredible!! It was so much different from using my aspire tank and zmax. Now that's the kind of setup I need! I fear it's a little too advanced for me right now but I need to get there fast. My wallet will not agree.

Something like the Nautilus and Zmax is nothing to shy away from. More of an entry to intermediate level of vape. Changeable coil heads are easy peasy. Damn, if you think that was a good vape, try someone's rba or rda that's been built correctly. lol

Vape just gets better.!!

It was some mammoth mod with a button on the bottom and a very big thing (coil head? Rda? I dunno) on top. I'm already fantasizing of going back and asking him to give me the same setup. Soon.

Now don't say that! I don't want to hear it is better on the other side! I am happy here. lol

That guy was probably using a mechanical mod (Mech) and a RDA. They can get costly. I wouldn't rush into that. The zmax should be sufficient for your needs. It is a regulated device so you don't have to worry so much about battery safety and such. You can use a RDA on them...just may not be able to go sub-ohm (which most who use Mechs do). You can also try getting an RBA tank such as a Kayfun Lite +.

It's funny what can produce the best combinations. This week I got my first Provari and I got a Smok Zmax about a month ago. I will use any tank on the Zmax but so far I have only used a Kanger aero on the Provari. Why? Because they are the only tanks I have that do not leak to some degree. :) As much as I hate to say I love a Smok product I LOVE my Zmax. So far (using the same tank) I cannot get my Provari to produce the same flavor as the Zmax but the Provari and I are still getting to know each other. Obviously the Provari is not an inferior product to the Zmax but every combination of device, fluid, tank and settings produces different results.

Honestly the best and most flavorful vape I have ever had was on a cheap Smok Aro winder battery, a vivi nova slim tank and Madvapes Sweet Carolina juice. $25 total investment in hardware. It was (and still is) an amazing combination for me. However I will not put a vivi nova on my Provari because I do not want to put a tank that leaks on it and every vivi nova I have used leaks. But I have no problem putting it on a device I can replace for $20. I know it will not hurt the Provari but if that is the flavor I am looking for I do not have to use the Provari and I will just use the Smok.

All in all there are not any "perfect" combinations for me since there are almost unlimited things to try. There will always be a tradeoff. Find you like and go for it. Cheap, expensive, regulated, unregulated, purchased coils, build your own - whatever. As long as it works for you and you do it safely - VAPE ON!

I am having a hard time changing the wattage on the zmax. I am following the directions but once it gets to the wattage I can't seem to get it to change. It worked the first night I had it. Any tips?

Hmmm...that's strange. 3 clicks to enter the menu and the first setting should be power up and the next menu setting should be power down. Mine has never had a problem. If you are in wattage mode the 1st menu item (after clicking the button 3 times to enter the menu) should say 1.Pu. Leave it for a few seconds and it should show a number. Once that happens you can click to change it. (I am sure you know what you are doing so forgive me repeating what you probably already know.) What is yours doing?

It will let me change the voltage but when I try with the wattage it will either click off or keep going through the menu. I will try it again with your suggestions when I get home. Thank you!!

The device will run in either voltage or wattage mode. If it is changing the voltage you are running in voltage mode. To switch to wattage you need to change from voltage to wattage in menu item 7. Go to menu #7 and once it displays Uo click the button again to change it to Po. Hope that helps!

That's what it's doing. I can click back and forth between Po and Uo but I'm stuck as to what to do next. I thought it would let me adjust wattage from there. I just realized I cannot control wattage and voltage, bummer.

I think that is a pretty good starter, but if you are anything like me, you will get into hobby mode and upgrade quickly. :) It's trial and error my friend, but it's a fun ride! Keep on vaping...try lots of liquids and gear, and you will find what suits you best.

I am on the new side to vaping, and have the kanger evod twist with the t3s, and actually like these together.. any need to upgrade or is this a good starting combo?

Well honestly from a technical side when you adjust one you adjust the other. Ohm's law can get pretty technical for people who don't completely understand it (like me) but ultimately the relationship between resistance, wattage, voltage, etc. are all connected. Many devices only allow you to adjust the voltage and are not hampered by having no wattage adjustments available to the user. (For example the Provari, which is considered to be a premium device, will only allow you to adjust the voltage.)

The good news is the device you are using lets you have a lot of adjustments. Play with voltage and see what you like. Play with wattage and see what you like. All you have to do is find a setting that works for you and stick with it. Running in wattage mode on the Zmax is supposed to be more accurate than running in voltage mode as it supposedly takes the resistance of your coil into account and provides you with the correct output to match your setting. With voltage you may have to make adjustments based on the resistance of your coils if you change your coil resistance plus the device is not constantly regulating the output like it does in wattage mode. (From my understanding anyway. Take that information with a grain of salt.)

Basically just play with it in both modes until you find what you like. And if you are interested in learning more, just google Ohm's Law or look at some of the threads on this forum regarding voltage and wattage. Pretty interesting stuff.
