So I've been doing the e-cig thing for a little over a month. Love it. It's a miracle. After 18 years (half-pack to a pack a day), I stopped smoking analogs that same day and haven't been seriously tempted since.

So, why aren't these things more newb-friendly? PVs, atties, cartos, passthroughs, dripping, bats, analogs, PG/VG/PGA, autos, manuals ... what the hell? Why is everything shrouded in cryptic jargon?

I've had to do so much Googling, and most of the helpful information I've found has been either in this forum, on YouTube, or on random blogs. The dealer sites are just awful about walking new users through the terminology. It seems like the FAQs typically contain questions like "What is an e-cig," "Are e-cigs healthy," etc. That's nice, but it didn't help me figure out if I needed an automatic battery or a manual one. Or what sort of juice blend would be best for me.

Anyway, just venting a bit. I really, really appreciate this forum for helping me navigate these new waters. Perhaps every e-cig should come with a little card that has this URL printed on it. :)

Totally understandable. Suppliers are many times not a good source of info on what the lingo means since they often times use their own rebranding to identify what they sell. Anything you need to learn can be found here, but you're right, there is a lot of info. I find checking the model specific subforum can helo clear things up a bit.

Here and back
I agree with the vendor sites. They could at least tell you simple things like the 306 atty will or will not fit a 510 connection, a little graph somewhere on the site. When you look at the "details" of their products, there aren't any. If a vendor had more information I think it would be easier for a newb to buy from them. Be helpful and people will be loyal

I think it's just the way our society like to condense every word these days. Every word in our ever-decreasing vocabulary yearns to be shortened and/or acronym-ed. Perhaps it is either the reason, or cause, of our ever-decreasing attention span and memory. I pity the linguist in these times. I come from the IT industry since it's beginning and I'm probably just as much at fault as anyone at it.

I agree that most vendors of quality products don't do enough product explanation. Maybe they know that most of their clients come from the ECF? Unfortunately, when I see a vendor that has a lot of text on their site, it's sickening hyperbole and transparent marketing crap. So, I usually click away from them and avoid at all costs.

Glad to see you here, Captain and taking the time to vent. It's a bit of a struggle, but worth every minute of time invested.

Thanks for the feedback to my little rant. I'm just so very impressed with the experience of vaping, and I think it could explode. I don't know a single smoker who hasn't been fascinated by my device. If the whole experience were more accessible, less confusing, and required less research, I think it truly could be the wave of the future, as advertised. Here's hoping! :)

Anyway, I'm thinking of compiling a glossary of terms and explanations to distribute. I know there are already some good ones online, but I had to work to find them, and there's so much product-specific information in this forum that it can be a bit overwhelming. I know I won't be the first to create such a thing, but the more info floating around out there, the better, right? :)

Most of the suppliers web sites that I have visited are created using generic online templates that don't allow space for a lot of originality, and a lot of the suppliers jumped into internet sales without any prior experience and lacking the cash required to hire a web site designer, so the sites lack content, and are little more than a shopping cart. You will have to use ECF to acquire the information you need to make good buying decisions, and you will have to find a few suppliers that are knowledgeable, honest, willing to help you as a consumer, and provide good service. Most of the suppliers that use ECF to attract customers fit the criteria above, and are excellent to deal with, including the ones based in China.
