Why buy 100w at 7v when you can have 50w with 8.5????

Knowing Ohm's law will give you the answer. Basically though in theory it means with a 100W even with less volt output, it can handle a lower ohm coil.

at 8.5 volts, 50Watts gives you a max of roughly 1.5ohm coil

at 7 volts, 100watts gives you a max of roughly 0.5ohm coil

this is a rough mental calculation, dont take these as gospel, but should answer your question a bit.

To answer your question, I cant tell you if either device is better for you, without knowing what sort of topper you use and at what resistance.

for me.. the big reason to go to the 100w is that it uses 2 batteries, so doubling your battery life between charges.

And that, right there, is probably why I'll get into one of these soon.

To the OP, it's not just about the voltage. Power (wattage), voltage, resistance, and current are all related.

Maximum voltage is nice, but it's not the whole picture. As FallenRawToast alluded to (raw toast, isn't that bread? :p ) you also need to look at the conditions under which the mod can provide that kind of wattage and its operating limits.
