My several months in the world of vaping have really been driving me crazy due to my inability to find a flavor that I enjoy. Unlike most E-cig users, I was only an on-and-off smoker of cigarettes; I mostly smoked pipes and cigars. One night I tried a Blu disposable at a bar and I was instantly interested in E-cigs. I smoked a few more Blu disposables, then tried other options. But, to my enormous frustration, I have not yet been able to find a flavor that appeals to me as much as the Blu disposable did.
First I tried the Blu Premium kit. I returned it after about a week. The flavors tasted good at first but then after only a short time (literally an hour or less) I found them to burn up and taste awful like a charcoal grill doused in lighter fluid. Also, the battery life sucked. I returned it, then bought a Volt kit.
The Volt gave me a better experience, but I still struggle mightily to find a favorite flavor. Here's what I've tried so far:
Volt RY4 and 555: way too sweet and "dessert" tasting
Volt Country and Desert Joe: OK, but doesn't really taste anything like real tobacco, and a bit too strong.
Vanilla Love from Altcig: supposed to be "the best vanilla flavor ever" from all the reviews I read; I tried it and it tasted not remotely like vanilla, but instead like fake "buttered popcorn" jellybean flavor with a very unpleasant chemical-tasting undertone.
Johnson Creek Red Oak Domestic: Supposed to be the closest thing to "Blu Classic Tobacco" - not flavorful enough for me, and the flavor that it had was too "dark" and bitter tasting.
Johnson Creek Swiss Dark: Advertised as tasting like chocolate; tastes absolutely NOTHING like chocolate. Whoever said that it does is utterly insane. It has a very faint, almost flavorless taste, similar to burnt popcorn, and the juice is so thick it's almost impossible to get any vapor.
Johnson Creek Marcado: supposed to taste like a clove; it does imitate the flavor pretty closely, but also has a really strong apple-cinnamon type component that I didn't like.
Johnson Creek Tennessee Cured: it was OK at first, but I felt like after a few puffs, took on a "smoky" hint that was supposed to mimic a cured Virginia type tobacco but instead reminded me of stale ham or some kind of pork.
The other day I received a shipment that I ordered from "Velvet Vapors." I was super excited since the descriptions sounded great, but I have been phenomenally disappointed. Here is my analysis of the flavors, and I swear to God I'm not just trying to be insulting or snarky - this is genuinely what the flavors tasted like to me, and I think my palate is pretty accurate.
Velvet Vanilla: tasted nothing at all like vanilla, but rather a sweeter version of Play-Doh's smell and taste (I swear, I'm serious)
Vanilla Almond and Vanilla Caramel tobacco: they both had an INTENSELY "floral perfume" flavor and smell to them. The vanilla caramel tobacco tasted nothing like either vanilla or caramel. The Vanilla Almond tobacco DID, in fact, have distinct notes of almond, but also contained this "floral perfume" type element that I do not care for.
White Chocolate Tobacco: tastes nothing like either chocolate or tobacco; tastes like the way FAKE chocolate flavoring smells, and reminded me of the AXE "Dark Temptations" body-wash that I once regrettably tried.
Cherry: does taste/smell like cherry, fairly accurately - not real cherry but the fake "cherry" cough drop type flavoring. I guess if you like that, this one might be good, but it's not really my thing.
Cappucino Hookah: I was particularly excited about this one, since I love coffee and love smoking hookahs (in fact, one of the things I liked about the taste of the Blu disposable - and ONLY the Blu disposable, not any of the Blu cartridges - was that it reminded me of a hookah.) But the Cappucino Hookah prooved to be an enormous disappointment. There was absolutely NOTHING about it that remotely smelled or tasted like cappucino or a hookah. The taste was utterly bizarre and, in my opinion, quite vile. I am unable to describe it with words. This isn't to say that it tasted like some universally-despised thing, like dog .... or rotten meat or anything, just that the taste did NOT seem like anything that is meant to be inhaled and tasted. It was just a totally unnatural and displeasing flavor.
Finally, I tried "Sweet Carolina" from MadVapes. This isn't bad, per se; it has elements of sweetish tobacco taste plus definitely honey and also some kind of rum or bourbon or something. It has a really strong throat hit, being made mostly of PG. I like it, but I don't LOVE it.
Again let me state, I'm not trying to be derisive and condescending with my descriptions above. They are just genuinely what I believe the above liquids tasted like.
Here are the flavors I would like to attain:
Vanilla (REAL vanilla flavor, like when you have a bottle of vanilla for cooking)
Cavendish and Burley tobacco
Slight hints of nuttiness like walnut or pecan
Hookah taste, not any one flavor specifically but that taste of baked molasses or whatever it is when you take a hit of a hookah
Does anyone have suggestings of things I might like?
