Why does an atomizer need time to break in?

my guess would be annealing of the atomizer coil. a few heat ups and cool downs may increase the conductivity of the coil thus making it more efficient.

or :

when you draw on an ecig , that action also draws the liquid into the ceramic pot. On a new atomizer the wire mesh in the atomizer has no defined 'channels' for the liquid to pass through. After a days use of huffing and puffing , the wire mesh produces these 'channels' which allows liquid to flow better into the ceramic pot.

Sounds right but probably all cloak and daggers :)

The atomizer should be at peak performance when new--only an atomizer that was not properly primed enough at the factory would actually get better and then deteriorate--Be sure that the bridge has enough e-liquid soaked into the new atomizer before its first use. As for taste--the factory prime will give way to the e-liquid very rapidly---Sun

sun has it about right... it just needs a good prime.. some come from the factory without a good one.. they dont need to break in.. its just one of the many e smoking myths..
