Why does the first 5-10 puffs of my cartomizer taste harsh?

Aspire Nautilus and iClear 30B. Both of them seem to have a 'break in' period every single time I use it. I take a smoke break every 2 hours at my job, and every time it takes a bunch of puffs before the scratchy throat feeling goes away.

This has always happened regardless of the juice I'm using. My Kangertech 2 (and mini) have never had this issue.

Every time I put a new head in my cartomizer this is what I do:

Prime about 2-3 drops of liquid. Fill the tank, then let the tank sit for about 10-15 minutes before first use. I read online dry burning the Nautilus heads are not good, though is this method needed before priming the coil to get rid of some coating or something?

Help is much appreciated!

The dual bottom coils sometimes need a "priming" so to speak, to saturate the wick prior to vaping. Even the top coils of the iclear 30 (you have the bottom design) needs a little priming. What you can do is one or both of two things.

First, when filling, a couple of drops of liquid right on the wicks close to the coil will start the process. Then, fill 'er up at let it sit for several minutes to absorb before vaping. Second, before hitting the fire button, take a couple firm draws (a "cold" hit) to help pull a little bit more juice to the wick. That should help you tremendously. HTH

ETA:facepalm:: My reading skills suck today. You're basically already doing this. Hmm, what percent PG/VG is your juice. Sometimes higher VG juices (well above 70%) can be quite thick, causing a delay and slowly the wicking to the coils. Some tanks are just picky about this. Even 50/50 can be a little thick for some.

^ I agree primer puffs or dry puffs are often needed with bottom coil setups to get things going.

Yeah, let us know your juice ratio, so we could rule that in or out (too thick can always be thinned with like 3 drops of distilled water) and try the dry puff technique, too. My bad, I need to eat, I'm starving, not thinking...LUNCH TIME!

Just for reference to other's reading this to avoid confusion- You're talking about clearomizers, not cartomizers.

Thanks for that!

The juices I've used:

Suicide Bunny - Mother's Milk (This is the only one I know the PG/VG of. 30/70. Very thick)
Ruthless - Grape Drank
Drip! - Orange Obsession
Drip! - Maximum Menthol (Didn't notice much of scratchy with this one, hard to tell because it is such a cold feeling)
Two Peas In a Pod - Man this pineapple is bananas
