The pic you would see here in the threads is called the "Avatar".

In your User CP, on the left side go down to 'Settings & options' to find the avatar edit page.

kind of got the same problem....everytime i try to change my avatar it says "file not valid".... i am trying to use the same avatar i use on all the different forums... this is the only forum that is not working.... same thing when i try to add a banner to my sig line.... maybe its just me

Might want to check the file you're trying to use for your avatar. There's two limitations at work, dimensions must be smaller than 150x150 and the file can't be larger than 5K.
