Why high wattage?

I bought a subtank mini, and I loved it at first, and I still really like it, but what is the point of 50 watts?

When I first got the device I was hovering around .5ohms and 35 watts, but lately I've been knocking the wattage down to about 15.5 because the high wattage vapor is too hot for my liking.

What does a high wattage device allow for that low wattage devices don't?

of course the flexibility is nice- the feeling that if I want to I can go to 50 watts just like I may not go 100 mph in my car but its nice to know I can, but for practical purposes I don't understand high wattage.

Lower resistance, thicker wire and/or greater coil surface area. More surface area (that can be adequately heated) = more and denser vapor (with high VG) is produced, per draw.

Some people like high wattage vaping - they like the flavor and the massive clouds. Personally, I vape between 14 and 11 watts on mechanical mods and every now and then I may go up to 20 watts on a regulated device with a dripper, but I can't imagine hitting 50 watts. Fortunately, there are a lot of choices and options when it comes to vaping and people have different preferences.

As you stated above, nice knowing you own a Ferrari that can easily do 150mph, but the average every day user will just cruise with it at the speed limit or at the speed they are comfortable with, no other reason at all. Yes I own 2 150watt devices, maybe taken them up to that max like twice, just to test out what it is like, most times I'm at about 7 to 12 watts on my RTA's and between 40 to 60 watts on my RDAs when I'm feeling especially sadomasochistic and overly stressed, rest of the time about 30watts on the RDAs.

Simply, it allows for bigger lower gauge coils as they tend to end up in the subohm range naturally.

As well as powering some of the more exotic coils that have a large amount of mass that cant easily be heated without decent power.

Makes sense, but my subtank mini included rta can only fit 26 gauge wire comfortably - I suppose if a regular RDA was attached the 50 watt setting would be helpful.

If you are running multiple coils the wattage is divided among them. Say you are running a four coil RDA. If you want each coil to produce 25W of heat you need a mod that will put out the voltage and current to make 100W total.

While subohm clearos are all the thing now, most high power users are a bit more extreme then they are designed for.

It's nice to have the "overhead". If you vape 15-25W it is better to have a 50W device working at 50% or less of its rated capacity. This stuff is all pretty much built to the specs of the lowest bidders. So running mods wide open at max power will arguably (and this is necessarily speculative) shorten their life and increase the chances of a "surprise ending".

I personally run simple builds on my STMs and KBox Mini (I assume you have the same Subox kit?). I usually run 25W or less because I find my RBA deck builds do not always keep up at higher power, and I do not necessarily prefer that.

It's all personal preference. You should not feel compelled to pin the speedometer in this car :)

I run drippers in 50W mods and I do run them up to 35W or a bit more, especially vaping pure VG.
