I had a Bio professor explain that folks who only smoke when they drink actually have a nicotine addiction. Their body gets confused when they are dehydrated due to drinking alcohol and tells them they are craving a smoke. Apparently the signals are quite similar???

I keep quick mentions to folks to stay hydrated.

Is it because the sensation of dehydration and craving nicotine are so similar? Does nicotine also dehydrate our bodies? Or is it something else about vaping?

Not sure exactly what it is. However, when I vape I will notice my mouth start to get dry or my throat scratchy. Drinking some water clears this up. My water intake since I started vaping is kind of insane. I used to drink only tea, water was a once in a while thing when I would run out of tea and had to make more. Now I drink mostly water.

I've seem some that use 0nic say that it dehydrates them as well so I'm sure it has something to do with the pg/vg.

PG and VG are both humectants: they draw water from the environment around them. That's why they're used in personal care products so much.

When you vape them, they draw moisture from your mouth, throat, and lungs and part of that moisture is exhaled out in vapor. Drinking fluids when you vape helps replace that moisture.

I get a sore throat, prickly tongue (leather tongue if I nap without drinking first), and I've actually had my lips crack and bleed (which they never do otherwise).

Raising my hydration levels helped with all of that. And I've found that water, juice, or soda all seem to work fine, regardless of what people say. It may require a little more juice or soda to turn the trick, but if that's what's available then it's going to work.

If it also helps combat nicotine cravings, I'm all for it.

There's a secret amongst athletes that I wish more vapers knew: once you're thirsty, you are already dehydrated.

Staying hydrated is a lot like keeping your nic level up when vaping: little sips throughout the whole day keep your levels even. It's easier to maintain. Letting your levels drop too low make you feel bad, and then chugging to get your levels back to normal make you feel worse for a period of time.

Since I quit smoking last May I have been exercizing alot, working out, walking, jogging, swimming, I got used to being sore all the time. Right before Christmas I treated my self to a more efficient vaporizer than I had been using since quitting analogs.. Basically I was using an 808 style with cartridges and i switched to something with an all day battery and clearomizers.. Great I thought,, lots more satisfying vapor and my batteries never die. I took a break from Exercizing around Christmas for two weeks and I figured the muscle soreness would go away... it didnt. I couldnt figure out why.. Until I joined ECF and found out that I needed to stay hydrated.

Propylene Glycol :

"It has been noted that PG In the body, under conditions of normal minimal exposure is quickly metabolised and excreted. It has been said the metabolic pathway is comparable to that of sugar. PG is rapidly converted into lactic acid, just like what happens with the sugar when being exercised during sports. The lactic acid is then excreted via the urine."

Lactic acid was causing my muscle soreness. Even though I was not exercising, I was still vaping and not drinking enough fluid.. My tendency was coffee in the morning and very little fluid throughout the day. That has changed, at least a gallon of fluid a day and the exercise has resumed the soreness has subsided.

So Please Stay Hydrated!!

Good info thanks for sharing that !! I have been drinking a ton of water since I started vaping and it just helps my body to feel better overall besides being imprtant to the vaping experience

Where vaping is concerned, PG is hydroscopic, meaning it absorbs water. That's why one needs more water.

As Akatina pointed out in an earlier post, both PG and VG both absorb water. I can only find reference to the lactic acid with the PG, but I am not an authority on the subject.

Stay hydrated with VG juice as well.
Yes, they will both dehydrate you.

PG can metabolize into lactic acid (it's part of the reason I avoid it, I create enough lactic acid skating). VG is a different substance and metabolizes differently; it can metabolize into glucose.

"Can" is the important word in both those sentences. Not all the PG/VG you inhale can or will be metabolized, some of it is exhaled out. I would imagine the manner in which you inhale and how long you hold your vapor would make a difference.
