Yeah everything changes when you quit. There is (someplace) it might be in the safety and heath section of the board, a list of things that can happen when you detox. It was really helpful. I needed to up my thyroid med due to how smoking can mask vaping sx or is processed differently, etc, and I would have NEVER connected those two dots.

I wish I'd saved the link but, LOL, I was so miserable and loopy with my detox, I didn't. Any major sx I would suggest running by your doctor if you are concerned, but if it's just general misery and being wired and whatnot, I would not be supremely concerned, etc.

Hi, I just started vaping and quit smoking one week ago. I used to smoke 2 packs a day. I'm using 12 mg and 18 mg juice. Are there detox symptoms people go through when switching to vaping from cigarettes? After about 4 days I had a bad case of ......... I have also felt really lethargic. It feels like my body wants to sleep and heal itself. I have read and understand that you have to drink more water when vaping due to possible dehydration so I have been drinking enough water. I don't think I'm going through nicotine withdrawals because I feel pretty satisfied as far as that is concerned. I am wondering if there is a bit of a detox from all the many other chemicals in cigarettes and was wondering if other people had a similar experience when they first switched over to vaping from cigarettes.
Welcome and glad you joined.
Might like to read about the possible effects on the body when changing over from smokes to vaping:
A list of symptoms when quitting tobacco and changing to an ecigarette

First off congratulations! One week off a long term 2 pack a day habit that was slowly killing you is a massive accomplishment! Good for you!

Second that is a heck of a first set up. Does it satisfy you in ways other then nic delivery so you can stay quit? If it does great! Next, do you have several different juice flavours that you loooove, preferably in a few different flavour profiles? Just because your tastebuds will come back online in the next little while and what you love now if you only have one type of flavour may shift. Today you may love mango (or whatever) tomorrow it may taste meh or not at all for a while believe it or not. So then you might want to switch away from the sweet fruity profile to a vanilla custard or a mint chocolate or a cinnamon donut. Or whatever else appeals.

I agree coffee consumption and or detox from nasty stinkies may mess with your belly on and off. We ex smokers tend to really loooove our coffee, it works nicely with the nic. If you are like me and find half caf or decaf has a hole in the middle I suggest you do something like I did. I started a new coffee ritual. I went out and got myself some really nice whole beans- the kind of coffee we get when we have company over or it's a holiday. I got myself a nice new single size French press, a fancy coffee mug, and full on whip cream and maple syrup (that's a thing here in Quebec). I cut my coffee consumption in half and it's reaaaaaaaaaly good yummy coffee, because I'm a vaper I can taste it even better. Treat yourself like A Queen or King! You have done something wonderful for yourself and your loved ones. Enjoy the crap out of less coffee but really gooooood, fresh coffee. Incidentally those dark rich roasts have less caffeine but more flavour then the pre ground canned stuff.

Next you are on the right track with water. I tell newbies to try water 2.0. Get yourself a bottle of nice raw, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar- it should say on the bottle something like 'with the mother'. Add to taste in your water. If you must add a little sweet a bit of raw unpasteuruized local honey has additional benefit for your throat and immune system. If you are having blood sugar troubles a few drops of a pure quality liquid stevia is fine but less is more. Too much stevia gets bitter. Try to avoid white sugar as much as possible, as much as you can while quitting. Frankly smoker or not we should all cut down on sugar. I believe before the end of my life the media will finally catch up to science and tell us all it's just as bad for us as smoking.

Acv is very healthful. Many people take it daily and swear by it. For you as a retiring smoker it will support your detox, help put good stuff back into your gut that smoking killed, strengthen your immune system..and keep your juice tasting yummy and fresh the whole tank through. If you run into the quit zits, dab a wee bit of that acv mixed with some water on your trouble spots at night before bed. Bye bye pimples.

When you are out buying that nice acv pick up a jar or nice dill pickles. Not bicks. A nice raw kosher style dill pickle found in the fridge section with a cloudy brine. Throw it in the fridge and forget about it. If you like pickles eat them. But save that brine. If you wake up one day and go to have a vape and your juice tastes like nothing... swish and gargle that pickle juice. That is something called vapers tongue. We don't know why it happens but it's temporary and harmless if inconvenient. If it does happen to you, when your taste comes back things will taste stronger. Remember what I said before about having different flavours? This is a good time to change flavours, or whip out a bottle you thought you would like but didn't quite hit the spot. You may looooove it now.

Next, something really off the track that I have found works like a charm for helping new vapers transition more gently. Disclaimer talk to your doctor as I don't know your health status. What I recommend is homeopathic Ignatia amara 200ch. It's cheap and and cheerful and easy to find on amazon. I like the boiron line for packaging. It's like a tube of Chapstick, slips into purse or pocket and you just twist the top to pop out five little pellets. They taste sweet, just pop them under your tongue and let dissolve. The package says 3 times a day, I find 2 doses a day around breakfast and dinner is sufficient for most people. But you can take it every hour if you want. Any mood things- anger, anxiety, stress, depression take that. It really helps a lot of people and if your doc knows anything about homeopathy (energy medicine) s/he likely thinks it's bunk and snake oil but will say it's just sugar pills it won't hurt you so take it and congrats on not smoking. The dose is important 200 ch means (simplified) diluted 200 times, verses something like 6ch is less dilute. In homeopathy more dilute is stronger, believe it or not.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope it helps you! Again my heartiest congratulations for your life changing decision.

Vape happy and vape on and welcome to ecf!
Hi .
Just wanted to say what a great post.
Must try the cider vinegar.
Homeopathy is such a strange thing .
As a young man with young man's habits of indulgence . Homeopathy would have no effect on me. Now I'm a respectable middle age gent ( who am I kidding ) those little sugar pills work wonders.
My herbalist tells me it's down to a combination of fewer stimulants in my system and a lower life force or chi.
If you ever get mouth ulcers try a dose of Nat Mur and Ferr Phos. 2 tabs of each every 2 hours.
Gone in 4 days .
Homeopathy is used to great effect on animals, somewhat disproving the placebo effect .
Anyway thanks for the post Jan Tee

Thank you for the compliment. In my experience just like allopathic medicine if something isn't working, try a different dose or remedy. Royalty and we'll to do folks still use homeopathy as their first choice most of the time so there must be something to it. It's political that it was replaced with pharma and criticized. I'm all for using both schools of medicine on a case by case basis as long as the golden rule of first do no harm is followed.

haha well that might have been it! How were people with the whole dehydration deal? Still trying to get a feel for how much extra water I should be drinking. It's the only thing I can pin point to this fatigue and weird tingling in my upper legs. I drink some water and get a bit of energy. Feels like I gota be pounding water all day long lol

Congratulations! Your body's adjusting to a lot of changes now, so it'll take a bit for things to get back to normal. It's also true that not everything that's going on right now is necessarily related to switching to vaping. I agree with everyone who said if things are worrying you or last longer than you're comfortable with, see a doctor.

Real dehydration isn't likely to occur from vaping. Dry mouth is common, but it shouldn't be too serious.

Someone mentioned the list of symptoms people have reported when quitting smoking/ switching to vaping, so here it is:

A list of symptoms when quitting tobacco and changing to an ecigarette

You'll see ........ and sleepiness are both there. I don't see tingling, but that might fall under shakiness and muscle aches.

I have to say the fatigue really doesn't surprise me. Nicotine's a stimulant, and as it's unlikely your nicotine levels are exactly the same you could be feeling a bit of a drop from the change. It should wear off shortly (and if it doesn't, see a doctor). And it's not just the nicotine, of course. Tobacco contains a load of bio-active compounds that we really don't understand, so it's hard to quantify all the things that could be happening when we quit.

I hope things start settling down for you and the vaping goes well. I'm now off to read the thread I linked to above, which seems to contain all sorts of fascinating medical information I wasn't aware of.

Doesn't have to be water, just fluids. You won't drink more if you don't like what you are drinking.

Thank you all for the tips, sudgestions, and feedback. After getting this 100% VG I ordered, I tried a little experiment. After switching to the pure VG all fatigue, exhaustion dissapeared. I tried the 30pg/70vg juice again to confirm and was back laying down feeling like I ran 10 miles miserable. Must effect everyone differently, and I seem to have some type of pg intolerance. Few years ago I tried a friends vape, he said it was 50/50, and coughed my brains out. VG no cough what so ever. Found out pg metabolizes into lactic acid im guessing thats why all my muscles feel spent. Must be more sensitive than most. I knew something was up because ive kicked cigs in the passed cold turkey and never felt like this. Anyway im just glad I found a solution and feel normal again. 100% VG juice for me!

Although i didn't have many "symptoms" when i switched, the worst i had was a bad case of I NEED A SMOKE NOW! which is completely normal.

Tbh there's no 1 way fits all, everyone reacts differently to switching, the hard part is finding the way that fits you, don't try to overdo it just follow the flow as i say.

I too was a heavy smoker,at least 2 packs a day. When I stared vaping It was suggested to me that I start off with a 6mg nicotine content. It proved to be the right move. There can be a lot of issues starting out with a high mg.content.I'm not talking about your mod or tank either. It's the physical part that happens to the body.Getting that buzz from a high level only increases the need for more.Be careful!!! So happy it helped! I can't take credit for coming up with the idea, but I don't remember how I heard about it years ago! I still keep all my pickle juice in a jar in the fridge it works great to clear the palate when I get new juices in!
