Although I have only been vaping for 4 months. I would like to get a dna 20 / 30 device. I'm using Itazte VTR currently and think there is better out there.

I have seen that the dna 30 board has become available for a while now. I'm curious as to why it is still so hard to purchase a DNA 20 device.

i'm tempted to get a Provari but I think a DNA device would suite me better and be more versatile. Are they holding out to control prices?

    Simply put, they're very popular.

DNA 30s especially, because of the added capability. 30watts is a lot more then 20, plus the ability to fire some subohm coils. And, the two very popular choices, the Hana Modz and the ZNA, just so happen to be EXTREMELY in demand.

If its one of those you want, wait a while. The buzz will normalize and they'll be readily available. When Zenesis2 launched, it was impossible to get anything. No carto hybrids, no hybrids other than 18350 size, forget about seperate pieces.. but now? Basically everything in the Z2 lineup is available all the time, barring a few exceptions. The ZNA will be like that soon enough, Zen is working hard to crank them out asap.

You can get a Protovapor XPV, the lead time on them isn't too bad, and they're well liked DNA20 devices.

Also, if its not neccesarily the DNA board you want, but the power capability of 20watts, there are a couple other options. There is a few 22w mods out now, I think Sigelei makes one, and there is the Lambo 6.0, which goes up to 20watts, ElectronicStix.Com · Lambo 6.0 VV/VW Device.

Simply put, DNA devices are popular, so they're hard to find. But options ARE out there if you do some searching.

    Food for thought..

Any mechanical device with a rebuildable atomizer, can surpass the power output of a DNA30. You can wrap the coil(s) to whatever resistance you like, and push more wattage than any regulated device can. As long as you use safe batteries and watch some tutorials on safe coil building, you'll be in good shape.

    Thank you jman,
I have been vaping for almost 4 yrs now, just started to build my own coils, kayfun and a few different drippers. I have been building around .5 to 1 ohms. I have become a big fan of ohms law. And I use the correct batteries.
The reason I'm thanking you is I have not seen you last statement anywhere, now maybe it's common knowledge, but I have not seen it.
Let me give an example. .5 ohm coil at 4.2v fully charged battery will give me 8.4amps and I would be vaping at 35 watts. All this from an ohms law calculator. Really incredible good vape.

So I wonder are these DNA 20/30 devices really worth it. Maybe I'm missing something.

The way you're using ohm law works with higher ohm coils (2.0 and above). You're not getting anywhere near 8.4amps and 35 watts with a mechanical mod and a fully charged battery with a 0.5 coil....you're not taking into account the large voltage drop you will get. The lower the ohms the larger the voltage drop. Depending on your set up it will be closer to 25 watts than 35 watts. And this is with a fresh battery, once you start draining your battery you will be vaping closer to 20 watts.

As I don't have a dna30 device I can't be certain but I would guess that at 30 watts it would have to be relatively short.

I am not trying to sell anyone on anything as there are "horses for courses" but most of the dna devices have a pass-through USB charger. If you are relegated to working from a desk or in a vehicle for the better part of a day than you can vape and charge at the same time without having to worry so much about it. Pretty darn convenient.

    Voltage drop!
    Yes you are correct,
I have a meter I can install between mod and atty, will this be the actual voltage that I can plug into ohms calculator?

The important thing is to measure under load....so you want to fire the mechanical mod and measure the voltage at the positive and negative posts of the atty. I use a multimeter to do this. Once you do this you will see the voltage won't be anywhere near 4.2v with a 0.5ohm coil....it will be more like 3.7v and that is if you have a good set up. You also have to remember that the voltage of the battery drops from 4.2 (fully charged) very fast and then stabilizes at 4.0v and then graudally drops voltage from that point. You can take 15 hits and when you measure the voltage of your battery it will be 4.0. But the drop from 4.0v to 3.7v will be much more gradual.

Depending on your budget, you can get a decent DNA 30 box mod from Vapor Shark for a reasonable price, compared to some of the boutique custom mod builders. I don't own one, but I've read some decent reviews of them. I believe Phil Busardo did a review of them on his You Tube channel. Vapor Shark is a well respected company, and the prices aren't outrageous. Personally, I'd keep using your VTR and check the authorized dealers websites for the one you want. I've been waiting for a particular mech mod for awhile and I've checked the dealer sites a couple times a day, and I got lucky and finally got one. After I bought it, they were out of stock again. That's how fast these things sell, so check and keep checking.
