Because they take for ****ing ever to implement a credit card merchant system.

I just received a phone call from my programmer telling me it might not be online til Wednesday morning. His excuse was he wants to make sure everything is perfect. To me, this means he's a mediocre programmer and I won't be using him again. It's looking like Wednesday.

Killing me.

Having worked with more web developers then I care to mention, I have never known one bring in a project on time. It doesn't mean they are bad developers, it means the internet always throws soomething you can't anticipate in your way :(

I think I'd rather wait an extra few days then potentially loose payments or customers through the payment system not working.

On the other hand he might just be a slack developer ;)

A slack programmer? Naaaawwww! ;) Maybe an offer of a case of Red Bull and 5 bags of Cheetos... lol

Actually I have to agree with Yoshi on this one, when I did program customizations for a company I worked for once I either hit the deadline and had to writefixes later, or missed the deadline and got it done right. Then again that was the last, and only, developer I've ever worked for. Glad we can call in orders in the mean time.

It seems that you were just unlucky to make a poor choice in who to outsource to. I web design in my spare time for fun (no I am not for hire), and my lady designs professionally. It would not have taken either of us more than 24 hours to implement such a thing. Sorry about your luck.

As for your .com address, have you set it up to forward to your .net? If you still have the domain registered your hosting company, or whomever you're using as your registrar, should allow you to simply set the .com up as a direct forwarded to your other domain in which case there would be no error, or anything noticeable whatsoever for your customers. You could even set it up to mask the actual domain so that all they see is the .com.

Just an option.

I have seen some exceptionally tallented web developers take days ocer implimentation of card processing systems, do to server issues, coding issues, and other compatability issues, it's not always as simple as it seems :(

Depends on the situation, and the requirements. Given what his site looks like, and the card processing options I've seen implemented on most of the rest of this communities sites, it shouldn't have taken more than 24 hours in my opinion. Of course, this is just given my experience with implementing them the times that I have done it. But of course, that probably doesn't supersede secondhand experience. Who knows.

No, sir. My ".com", ".net" and ".co.uk" are all tied into the same name server. No forwarding involved.

As for outsourcing, I did it cheaply because after having my order seized I've been in an enormous financial mess. I think it's definitely recoverable though.

In the meantime I'm taking orders over the phone.
