Has anyone had it happen where a wick is going along fine and then out of nowhere, it stops wicking? I've had a couple of wicks that were working well then between one vape to the next, I start getting a burnt taste. Take the top off and several of the coils are glowing. Touch the top of the wick and its dry as a bone. I tip it over to the 3 o'clock position, saturate the wick again and it fires fine but very quickly dries up again. Fill the tank up t be sure but same result. I run a #500 SS wick with 4/5 wraps 30awg Kanthal with 80VG juice. Same result with #200 mesh as well. I cant figure out why it would stop wicking all of a sudden without any change in the setup when it was wicking fine earlier in the day.

This has me baffled. Any ideas? Would appreciate any help.

It seems that you are developing hot coils.....did you readjust the coils to make sure they are glowing evenly and firing at the same time? This would happen to me a lot with 32g wire. Every couple of days I had to readjust the coils and then fill it up again with liquid and it would work great for another couple of days. With 30g wire it happens a lot less.

Guys thanks lot for all the responses. I guess I should have been more clear with my description.

On attys where there are fill screws, I have taken them out (Bliss). As for the smaller diameter wick, I have had this problem on both my Bliss (2mm wick) and my iHybrid (2.5mm). I have been using 28 or 30awg Kanthal on both solid and hollow wicks and check the coils are firing evenly every tankful. With all the stuff I've been doing, I am baffled why this is happening.

My coils do get gunked up pretty quickly. I dry burn my coils every tankful and wipe the gunk off the wick with a paper towel as well. I assumed this is enough of a cleaning for the wick. Should I be doing anything else to get them even cleaner?

this had happened to me once, and when i took out the wick to clean and re-torch i had seen a very small crack in the wick, probably from dry burning to long. when you torch this wick you will only see this crack when the wick is glowing, check for this, it may be the issue. it can have the crack at the position where you are noticing the dry coil.
