I recently got the Kanger Subtank Mini and after a couple days and the stock OCC not tasting very good I decided to try the RBA. Currently using the prebuilt coil(which is .5 according to my sigelei) running at 21.5w. Anyway, my question is how often do you rewick your RBA on the kanger mini? In about 3 days I've had to rewick it twice, not just for flavor but also to keep the juice "wicking" properly.I really am enjoying the tank and don't mind rewicking every 2-3 days(as I did on my tobh dripper), I just was hoping to get a little more life than ~1 day per wick.

I just posted a video I made showing what is working for me. It's made a world of difference. I have not had one dry hits since doing this. It's nice because now I don't have to wait between drags. I hated that restriction before... I hope that makes sense. lol...

Thanks for the video, but as I watched you saying that you solved your problem, I wondered, "What exactly WAS the problem?" I know you mentioned having to wait between hits, but why? Dry hits?

Also you didn't mention your wicking method. Seems that after adding the additional holes, that you may have to change how you wick. For example, do you make sure to cover the holes with wick? You mentioned not wanting to use the fancy wicking methods (I agree) but you didn't say what wicking method works for you with this hole modification.

Thanks for the video. It's given me the impetus to either drill my barrel or buy the new design rba deck.

Thanks for the comment. The holes allow the juice to flow in much better to get to the wick. Before I drilled the holes I was getting dry hits. Why? I'm sure it was me doing something wrong with the wick. The holes eliminated the headache (for me) to be precise with the wick. With the holes I haven't had one dry hit. Everyone uses different juices and different ratios so some (maybe many) do not have any issues with dry hits but I was getting dry hits. As you stated, Kanger has redesigned the RBA and has added the holes. I think the holes allow for a more consistent operation for everyone. I can only speak for myself but I've read many comments where people were experiencing dry hits until they performed this mod. As far as the wicking after drilling the holes, I'm a little more generous with the amount of cotton. I cover the holes with the wicking but if the VG level in the juice is greater than 80% then maybe the holes should not be covered to allow the thicker juice in more freely.

Here is the follow up video I made showing the wicking:

i originally bought the aspire nautilus mini, then immediately went to a "larger" tank design in the Kanger subtank mini. i didn't like it at first because i didn't know about anything(which i still don't. haha). I was watching a review vid and the dude didn't like he was getting dry hits off the OCC's it comes with. However, at the end of the vid he recommends to throwing out the coils and using the RBA option. LOVE IT!!! total game changer for me. i don't see myself drilling or modding the RBA, to each his own. I'm getting the performance out of it now. i'm using a twisted 28GA Kanthal and it clocks in at .8 Ohms. I can crank it up to 20-25 watts(not chain vaping), however with any multi-strand coil design, spitting may occur. I keep my AFC full open and spitting is minimal at best. just some intermittent "popping" from time to time on longer draws of more than a couple seconds.

I think the great thing we have in common is the fact that whether you mod it or not, it's a great tank. IMO of course... For those that don't have to mod the RBA, I think that is great. I will go as far as to say that the modding of the holes allows for my crappy wicking technique, there I said it. :)

Several threads and a few really good YouTube walkthroughs on this Exact topic! The RBA is finicky. But once you find the right setup, "supposedly" its spectacular. I guess I just haven't found mine yet!! LoL

I got AWESOME flavor on mine last week... with a 2-wire twist of 30 gauge kanthal. I used rips pancake technique and all together its been the best experienced Ive ever had vaping; although, keep in mind that I have a Tugboat RDA en route to my PO Box (my first rda) so we'll see what experience that yields.

Oddly though, I built another coil like last week's and wicked the same, all this morning... and despite using exact same juice, I'm getting this weird "sour" taste... I dont know why. Last night, I tried a different wick technique that didnt work. So I tried wicking it again, but, I dry burned the coil to clean all juice off... there might have been a couple of fibers left on the coil, and as soon as I stopped firing, a tiny little flame ignited on the coil. I thought nothing of it, and kept dry burning till coil was clean and no flames ignited.

I wonder if I should have washed/rinsed the deck and everything after that, and that possibly whatever combusted left something behind that was giving me an odd "sour" taste.

I even searched "sour" on ECF but found only 2 threads that had no replies. ?????/?
