For some reason, I occasionally get burnt hits with Tiki Juice. Doesn't happen with any other flavor. It also seems it needs to be "cooked" a little more, if that's the right term. With my other juices, I start my draw a second or so before pressing the button. With Tiki, I usually have to hold the button down for a second or so while very slowly drawing before I draw regularly, if that makes sense. If I don't do this, I don't get enough flavor, throat hit or vapor out of it.

I burned one wick before, but attributed that to not enough juice in the tank (I ran out of juice and was trying to get as much out of the tank as I could). Changed the coil when I got more juice, and now I randomly get burnt hits, even though I've been topping the tank off when it gets at about 1.8 ml. The tip is snug, not tight. I don't have this problem with any other juice, just Tiki. It's my favorite juice and I want to get the most flavor as possible out of it.

Should I try lower or higher ohm rated coils? I'm using 2.2-2.4 ohm coils.

When the twist battery comes out, will it fine tune the juice for me? If so, should I keep using the same coils?

Not sure how the voltage and resistance effect things, just know that they do/should.

I've used my Tiki Juice in my eVod and some 501 Fusion cartos from IkenVape so far. Mostly in the eVod, as I've found the performance to be crushing all of my previous favorites to the point where I don't even like to vape on the cartos right now.

With the eVod, I found my sweet spot with the 1.8 ohm heads @ 4v, so around 9-ish watts. Wicking with this setup has actually been the most consistent I've had in a clearo so far; typically right after filling the tank, the pressure is high enough that the first three or four hits are a little light on juice (but not too bad), then it's perfect until right around where the rubber seal above the wicks are. Then it gets light again and I typically fill.

I just burned another coil. Had it for about a week, and Tiki Juice isn't my regular flavor; I vape it 2-3 times a day, 10-12 drags at a time. I'm still on my original coil for my Menthol Ice and haven't had a single hiccup yet. That's been my all-day vape, so I'm pretty confident that Tiki needs a different value coil.

Since I have no idea when a twist will be available, what are the best coils to use with a Triton battery?

The Halo website says to use higher resistance coils if you're experiencing burnt hits. I'm using 2.2-2.4. There are higher value coils, but I think they're currently not available, as the only options right now are 2.2-2.4 and 1.8-2.0. I'm pretty sure there are two resistance higher ones. Which would be best?

With a higher resistance coil, would I lose some flavor? It tastes better to me when it's warmer. I've been consciously not "cooking" my juice because I thought maybe that was what was burning the coils.

While I'm at it, other than burnt hits and obvious burnt wicks upon visual inspection, how do you know when you need to change a coil? Do you get decreased flavor? Or do they stop working all at once?

Just trying to learn.

While I'm at it with questions...

What's the best way to get the taste out of the tanks? I've designated tanks to flavors, but it would be good to know for future reference.

What's the best way to get old flavors out of the mini tanks?
- I put two in boiling water for a few minutes. The one that had Tribecca in it has very little smell left, the one with HX3 has a bit more. I'd like to use them to try out other flavors

What's the best way to get old flavors out of cartos?
- Boiled those too. They've hung onto flavors more than the tanks. Can't for the life of me get Longhorn out of one. I'm letting it sit in 50/50 rubbing alcohol and water. I can still smell (and taste by drawing on it without the battery attached) that Longhorn aftertaste after rinsing several times. I'll let it sit overnight.

I won't be heartbroken if I can't get the smell out of them. I'd rather be able to re-use them though. Gonna order a menthol sampler pack and don't want other flavors changing the way they're supposed to taste. I also don't want to order 4 more mini tanks for the sole purpose of trying the flavors I haven't tried yet. Actually 5 mini tanks, as I plan on getting 7ml of Malibu too.

I've been rinsing thoroughly with very warm water and then filling with Clear Spring grain alcohol. $15 a 750ml where I live. Holding the top and bottom of the minis between thumb and middle finger and then shake vigorously. This gets more of the alcohol though the wicks and top coil. Sometimes I'll do it twice if it's a strong flavor. Let the alcohol evaporate a minimum of 2 hours but seems best to let set overnight.

Just did one that was filled with Midnight Apple. The smell is now very faint. I'm going to fill it with another known flavor to see if there's any carry-over. But I doubt there will be much.

Got another that I cleaned that was filled with Shamrock and in that mini I can still faintly detect the chocolate. But I'm guessing a couple of refills with another flavor will do the rest.

Burned another coil/wick with Tiki Juice. I didn't get burnt hits, but the juice in the tank became very dark; dark maroon instead of that light red. I took the tip off the tank and silicone tip off the coil, and the wick is pure black. Put it back together and now it tastes burnt.

Halo hasn't had any coils higher than the 2.2-2.4 ohm coils in stock. I guess I've got to give Tiki Juice a rest until I can get my hands on some higher resistant coils.

I haven't burned a single coil with any other juice - menthols, HX3, shamrock, etc. I really like the Tiki Juice, but I can't replace the coil every week on it, especially when I only vape it 2-3 times a day.

There's more to burnt hits than wattage. In my experience, it's more often due to slow wicking with the thicker juices.

If you fiddle with it enough you can keep this from happening. You can also slow down a little, take fewer shorter hits. However, I'm currently using a simple technique I stole from PBusardo: just remove one of the wicks.

Take your atomizer out, loosen up the silicone collar. There are two wicks in there, one with wire wrapped around it and one just sitting there, held in by the silicone collar. Just take the loose one out.

So far, it's working like a dream.

As far as high resistance coils are concerned, I think there's a place for them. These are pretty durn good batteries compared to your typical ego; mine comes off the charger at 4.1 volts, and it probably averages 3.7 volts. With a 1.8 ohm atomizer, you're pulling 7.6 watts, which is much more than you need for delicate fruit flavored vapes. Malibu, for example, will stand up to it but you might like it more at 6 watts. For that you would need a 2.4 ohm atomizer. You probably don't need to go with the 3 ohm atomizers. But if you want to try one, IM me your address and I'll send you a couple.

I would say, fiddle with the atomizer if you're getting burnt hits, and change atomizers if your fluid is consistently off in its taste.

Thanks AbqDave. Do you vape Tiki Juice? If so, have you had any issues?

I've narrowed things down...

I've never burned a coil (actually never burned wick) with anything else. I had a very faint brown mark on a wick used on Menthol Ice, but that was my all-day vape and the coil was about 3 weeks old

I don't vape Tiki Juice any differently than any other flavor - draw length, time in between, etc.

The tip isn't on any tighter than any other tip

I don't let it get down past 2ml, and swirl the juice around making sure the top of the wicks are both well saturated.

Now that I think about it, I randomly hear a pop when vaping Tiki Juice; I've heard it a bunch of times, but I realized Tiki is the only one this happens with. Not the regular noise that you can hear when pressing the button without your mouth on the tip, but a pop during the draw. This occurs randomly, and not very often.

Now I've ruled out the tank - I filled a mini tank, and I'm getting burnt hits in that too. I can't over-tighten that tip, and wicks were saturated. I started getting burnt hits around the .5 ml mark or so. Sucks because I like it better in the mini tank; it's the perfect temperature to bring out flavor (warmer than the standard tank and coil).

When the twist comes in, I'll use a new tank and coil on the lowest setting and see how it goes. If not problems, I'll play around with the settings until I find the right balance.

If this stuff didn't taste so good, I'd have given up on it already.

I'm sure it's not too thick for a good vape, as I haven't heard of anyone with the same issue. While no one's discussed Tiki here in a while, there were a lot of people talking about it a month or so ago when I first started lurking here.

I think it needs higher resistance coils/lower voltage/wattage. If I get a twist and use a lower setting on it with the standard coils, or use higher resistance coils with the regular Triton battery, I'm guessing the problem will be solved.

I'm new to this, having only used the Triton starter kit, so I'm not sure what the exact answer is. Since no one else has brought this up, maybe either I'm doing something wrong or it's just a coincidence that my coils have burned when Tiki Juice was in the tank(s).

Whenever either the twist comes out or the higher resistance coils are back in stock, I'll find out. I've got a mini tank that I can't get the smell of Shamrock out of. Since that one's pretty much done for me (while Shamrock is good, it's not something in regular rotation by any means), I'll fill it with Tiki. If that one goes as quickly as the last one went, there's no doubt it's not coincidental.

I'm pretty sure the twist battery will solve it, not that that's my sole reason for buying it.
