I just can't seem to get wicking down! I need your help internet!!
So I've been dripping for somewhere around 6 months now and can't for the life of me build a wick that lasts longer than a few hours. In the very beginning I don't necessarily remember this being an issue but when I started I was building at a higher resistance and constantly changing builds and flavors so wicks wouldn't really last more than a few sessions so it could have always been an issue. I like to live around .35-.4 ohm.
So the way I wick is cutting out a single strand of cotton I predetermined was appropriate for my coils sizes (1/2 an inch for 1/16 and 3/4 inch for 3/32) and then I roll those up relatively tight and feed em through clip off the excess and vape away.

The flavor is always great but after a bit I start to notice a performance drop off first it's vapor production and density then then it's flavor I can only really taste the first hit or two well than its super muted. I pop off the top cap and it's always the same the wick saturated (sometimes soaking) and near the coil is gunked up and black. Sometimes if I've gone long enough half of the wick will be out of the coil and laying on the deck. Most of the time it's still in there but if I move it the half I move comes out of the coil. I've hit my limit for attached pictures in this post but I'll post a few examples in a reply.
Since I've noticed this I've tried more/less cotton in the same method, I've tried ripping off fluffy bulks, lightly rolling it and feeding it through (this one seems to die quickest), I've tried the iteo wick which as far as I can tell is pretty much the same as mine but he saturates the wick before rolling it up. Nothing is working for me! I'm tempted to switch to silica but I really don't like the flavor as nearly as much so I'm hoping I can figure out an alternative. I primarily vape a strawberry custard called Jester by King George idk the VG/PG ratio but it seems to be heavier on the VG side.
Oh also of note I use the same wicking method for my kayfun and the wick always looks immaculate after a tank or two, at which point I usually change it just for a precaution. But I'm a little higher resistance on the kayfun usually between .7 and .8 ohms
