Hey all -

I am new to e-cigs and really hoping I can make the leap out of smoke and into vapors. I enjoy smoking. I just like the act of it, itself. It calms me, and is overall a pleasant experience, with the exception of all of the health issues!

That being said, I noticed at guy at my work who was puffing on an e-cig, and inquired about it. He told me what he was using, and after researching it I saw that it is quite expensive to jump into, but he assured me that eventually it becomes a money saver.

Well, today is pay day, so I decided to buy a setup instead of a carton. I am really hoping that I made a decent starter choice. The things that I would like to do with my kit is to refill my cartridges with my own liquid, perhaps drip the liquid onto the atomizer for taste testing variety, and have something that's going to get me through a day or two, without needing to fiddle with my setup.

I've done a lot of research, and reading on this page, and I gotta tell you, you guys are into this! I like seeing the custom rigs, and I see the passion that you all have for it :) I know this has got to be one of the best resources for anyone regarding e-cigs.

Anyhow, so onto my purchase! Any tips, pointers, or suggestions are much appreciated.

1 Janty Mini Fogger Kit
2 Janty Mini Fogger Atomizers
2 Bottles of Janty Liquid (Chocolate & Almond)
1 Janty Mini Fogger Battery (to give me a 3rd)
1 USB Charger (for a 2nd charger)
5 Janty Mini Fogger Mint Carts (to start out with and hopefully eventually refill with the liquid)

I am assuming that the Carts can be refilled? How long will the 10ml liquid bottles last if I normally smoke 1 pack of cigarettes a day?

Any newbie advice you all can give would be great!

Thanks -

Your shopping list looks good in terms of the right number of parts and supplies.

I can't comment on the Janty Mini Fogger--surprisingly, it's just about the only Janty product I don't own. Personally, I'm partial to the Janty Dura and, if you want to walk on the wild side, the JantyStick. I just don't know enough about the Fogger to give any real feedback. :)

I will say that once you settle in on a model you like, you will likely find that vaping is cheaper than smoking . . . especially given how expensive smoking has become of late. You just need to fight the desire to pick up every new product that comes out on the market. Some of us have been less successful in that endeavor than others.

Your liquid usage depends not only on how often you vape, but also on which type of e-cig you use. For example, my 901 sips liquid as compared to my Screwdriver. When I started using higher voltage e-cigs, my liquid consumption went up substantially.

Most folks report vaping between 2-3 ml a day. For most folks, when they start vaping (especially if they're actively trying to reduce their intake of tobacco), they tend to vape A LOT. It's hard to say, though. Many people report that it takes them less than a week to go through a 10 ml bottle, while 10 ml will last 1 1/2 weeks for other vapers.

Keep reading . . . you'll find a wealth of information here. :)

Welcome!!

I am a new vaper also so I am of no help to you :p I did want to give major kudos to the people on this forum :thumb: so friendly and knowledgeable!! Keep asking questions and reading the boards, it will become more clear. I started vaping a week ago and haven't had an analog since my first vape... very surprising for me!

I wish you luck, I'm sure you'll do great :)

Welcome to our little community! Glad to see ya here!

You've got a good starting set up... Janty's a good supplier with an excellent warranty.

Question - what strength liquids did you choose? I'd get a high strength and a low strength - you can mix different liquids together (chocolate and almond should be a good tasting blend!) and "tinker" with the nic strength that way to find your tolerance for nic-strength - and believe me, there's no magic forumla for determining what your tolerance for nic is - I've heard of 3 pack a day smokers who can't handle the 36, and half pack day smokers who don't vape anything less....

You can, indeed, refill the carts with liquid - way more economical that way, and more fun once you start mixing flavors.

In the meantime - keep reading, keep absorbing, and once you have the gear in your hands, a lot of what we're saying here on the board is gonna 'click.'

Welcome to vaping!

Hey all -

I am new to e-cigs and really hoping I can make the leap out of smoke and into vapors.

Disclaimer #1: E-cigs are not the magic bullet to smoking cessation, nor are they approved as such by any agency. That said, many people have used these devices to kick their tobacco habit.

...He told me what he was using, and after researching it I saw that it is quite expensive to jump into, but he assured me that eventually it becomes a money saver.

In the five months I have been vaping, I have spent more on vaping than analog cigarettes, but, the pay off for me is that I no longer smoke. Once the new habit becomes a hobby, sorry for your wallet.

...and have something that's going to get me through a day or two, without needing to fiddle with my setup.

Disclaimer #2: Vaping is a full-contact, hands-on habit. There are few devices that could operate for a day or two without some sort of intervention by you. First, batteries must be charged and swapped out when they die; you only get two batteries in the average starter kit. Depending on how much you vape, you could run out of charged batteries before the end of the day. If you drip, you will shorten the life of the automatic batteries. Cartridges will need to be topped off several times every day so have a bottle of juice with you. Paper towels or napkins must always be at hand to wipe off the inevitable drips on your device. If you decide to swap out cartridges rather than top off, have a baggie or small plastic container handy to hold the spent cartridges until you can clean and refill them.

Atomizers will die on you unexpectedly so have several on hand. If the atomizer dies, you cannot vape.

I am assuming that the Carts can be refilled? How long will the 10ml liquid bottles last if I normally smoke 1 pack of cigarettes a day?

Yes, carts can be refilled. I have seen estimates of liquid useage from 2-6ml/day. I find it hard to pin down a number for me as I often vape several flavors across three devices.

I picked out the 11mg strength. I am hoping that's going to be strong enough. Right now I'm smoking 1 pack of Menthol Lights in a day, often times just smoking 1/2 - 2/3 before hopping back inside (dang its hot outside!) From what I've heard 2-3ml a day, the one bottle is going to last maybe 3-5 days for 10 bucks, seems like a decent deal compared to the highway robbery I am paying on regular cig's at 5.52 a pack!!!!! :-x

I'm really looking forward to the flavors, my girlfriend will hopefully follow suit (hence the reason for buying the extra atomizers and batteries and chocolate liquid ;))

+1 on this. Once you have read this and think you understand it. STOP!! Go back and read it again to make sure you really understand it.

Perhaps the #1 frustration from new users is the fact they they did not realize that there is a certain amount of work that goes into making a successful transition to ecigs...............

Vicks is right in saying that there really is no rhyme or reason as to why some folks seem to NEED higher nicotine concentrations while others, even heavy smokers, seem to get by just fine with quite low concentrations. I do think, though, that Vicks' advice about buying two different nicotine concentrations is spot on--it allows you to tinker with your dosage quite effectively.

Personally, I tend to vape lower nicotine concentrations throughout most of the day. First thing in the morning, after my evening meal, and at various times throughout the day when I feel THE CRAVING, I spike my cartridge with a few drops of a higher nicotine solution. For me, that chases the cravings away quite effectively.

In any event, it's much trial and error. :)

And Breakfastchef is right that e-cigs simply DEMAND tinkering. There truly is no perfect e-cig that requires no attention from you for any length of time. Surprisingly, though, the "ritual" associated with dealing with my e-cig has been somewhat satisfying in a rather strange way. And popping off a cartridge to add a few drops of liquid is really no more onerous than opening a pack of cigarettes, getting one out, and then lighting it.

I think the girlfriend may be a bit more disillusioned by the tinkering than I would be. My job requires that I tinker a good bit, so I do enjoy it, no real issue there. I suppose my main concern in my original post was that I didn't want to have to be fumbling with the device every time I want to use it (at least not at first!). I am hoping that I can get a few sessions out of it before I need to add liquid, or make an adjustment. I'm sure it will all make more sense once I have the product in hand :)

Right now the big thing is, being so new to this, I didn't want to dump 300 bucks on a setup, I'm hoping that the 150ish that I just spent will give me a good idea if this is the right product for me or not.

I like the LED's (yeah, I know, flashy, etc, but the diagnostics ability of it seem good). I didn't see the LED option on the Dura-C which was why I didn't go for that.

Can anyone give me some information on the Mini Fogger, like what products are compatible with them from other vendors? Can I get a longer lasting battery if these seem too short?

Thanks all for all your replies, this is good info! I'm soaking it all up :)

Oh, Dude . . . say it isn't so! I'm laughing because I remember years ago when we were buying a bike for our daughter, my husband (and avid biker) asked her what kind of bike she wanted. Her response? "A pink one." I thought he'd die.

Yeah, the LED is cool, but you may find you like an e-cig that is utterly discrete and doesn't invite comment or criticism. There are places I can vape in stealth mode (by simply not exhaling plumes of vapor), and that's a bit harder to do if your device has a funky light at the end of it. :)

But if you are bound and determined to have an LED, they are available out there. The Dura-C is a 510. Plenty of suppliers carry 510s with LEDs--you just don't get the Janty warranty (which is pretty amazing).

I love the light too... I invite anyone to say one false word toward my e-cig :p they will get an earful I'm not as nice as I appear

And????????

:lol::lol::lol:

Fortunately, I'm relatively secure in my blondeness. And, yes, I really do have more fun. ;)

But we digress.

Yes, the LED is way cool. Yes, I love my JantyStick and its cool LED. Even so, I don't necessarily think the absence or presence of an LED is nearly as important as the model itself.

Having said that, my daughter did manage to get a pink bike. :D

From what I understand, the Mini Fogger is compatible with the 306A model.
And if so, keep in mind the possibilities for dripping and dipping with the exposed atomizer.

Good info Deadcat. I'm sure I will be able to keep my supply from Janty through warranty returns if necessary, or just get replacement parts from them when needed, but it's nice to know what the compatability for when I find a local store that sells parts, so I can get them in a pinch.
