I have been looking to purchase my 1st HV Mod and have gotten some good responses, but I'm still not sure what mod to buy. So to encourage everyone to give me answers I will give away my Magma 510 starter kit to whoever picks my 1st HV mod.

Starter kit includes:
1 Magma Atomizer
2 Magma manual batteries
Some empty Magma carts barely used I hate carts.
1 usb charger
1 usb to AC adapter
1 pcc charging case

Here are the rules:
1. You need to pick a mod that can be purchased for $130 or less.
2. The mod must be at least 5 volts
3. You need to make a convincing argument for whatever mod you think would be best for me.
4. You need to agree to give this kit to someone you know who is new to vaping and has not found the right e- cig to quit analogs with.
5. I will pick the winner based on who makes the best argument for the mod I choose.
6. If multiple people make a good argument for the mod I pick I will randomly draw the winners name from a hat.
7. My decision is FINAL.
8. Once I receive my 1st mod the winner needs to PM me there addy and I will mail them the Magma kit.
9. Winner will be selected on Thursday 9/23/2010.

Heres some info about my vaping history to help you pick the right mod for me:

I'm currently using a 3.7v box mod with 801 LR atty's which I like a lot, but the LR attys don't last as long as standard atty's and I'm tired of burning them up. I am looking for something to provide better flavor and vapor than what I'm getting with my box mod. Also, I want something that looks better than a plain box mod. I am currently considering the following mods but am open to other suggestions:

1. The saber touch- love the button on this, but I wish there was a variable volt version. I also like the looks of this mod.
2. The buzz- I like the variable volt option, but the button looks kind of cheap and I'm not wild about the looks.
3. The chuck- Love the fact you can customize this with any graphics you want, but I don't know if I could deal with the button sticking out since I'll probably keep it in my pocket.
4. The Prodigy V3- I like the looks of this mod, but have heard the batteries tend to rattle.

Not sure. My real intend is to pay forward my Magma and I figured this would be an interesting way to do it. I know there is a member contest area maybe I should have posted it there. I also figured it would give me some good feedback. I'm not asking for money in anyway so I don't know why it would be an issue. What would I need to do to get mod approval?

We know that your intent is pure so hopefully there won't be any problems... But in the rules and guildines:

16. All contests will be presented to the moderation team. All rules and guidelines should be in place before presentation. Any contest listed without moderation team approval will be deleted.

Again, your intentions are pure and I think it's a great idea, I just don't want you to get into trouble.

I think this is fine as of right now but be prepared for it to get deleted. You should PM Jules and let her know about your idea. Here is her page: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/members/6720/jules22871.html

Really near the mexican border.
The mod I am going after is the Hello 016, from Mad Vapes. This mod has 1300 mAh battery and the batteries last between 2-3 days depending on your vaping strength and length. I have heard from people that this their most favorite mod because it holds a charge for a very long time. One arguement is that the battery is sealed in, So instead of taking out the batteries every night and charging them, you stick the whole thing in the charger to charge. I think this can also be used as an advantage, as you don't have to have a seperate charger, seperate batteries and a seperate place to charge them. When the battery needs to be changed you can buy a new one for around 30.00. The starter kit, without the sale, is 54.99 and will last for longer than 7 - 510 batteries. YOU are able to use with an atomizer, and carts or with cartomizers. For the average day, you would only need, 5ml of liquid, the Hello 016 and maybe an extra atomizer/cartomizer. To last the whole day. Instead of having a little case with charger, batteries, atomizers, carts and or cartos and Juice. With this you only need the Hello 016, atomizer and cart/cartomizers and your juice. It will last you approximately 1.5 - 2.5 days depending on your vaping needs. When you get home, refill your juice, clean your atomizer/carts or cartomizer. Get together for the next day juice, atomizer/carts and/or cartomizers. Put the battery in it's charger over night and you are ready to go into the morning.

The other mod, I am looking to get is the "little sister" by Boxmods.net. This little mod is variable and fits in your hand as well as your pocket and takes up very little room. This is the smallest and cheapest variable mod. This mod goes from 0 to 7V with a twist of a little knob. Put it on 0 when in your pocket, vape at 3.7 V when relaxed and not needing much bang. Vape at 5V or higher when you are stressed or needing an extra bump of nicotine. 64.99 for variable 510 connector. you can add 4 high drain 10440 batteries, a charger (dual), and a LR atomizer for an extra 38.00 so for a total of $103.00. Then you need the normal atomizers/carts or cartomizers. I Like this mod because of its size, it quite possible to get a charger and batteries for much cheaper through dealextreme.com and get your atomizers on sale at some other site. The mod itself, is not much bigger than a bic lighter and is good for vaping on the sly and also for keeping in your pocket, with out taking up a lot of space.

These are my two choices for mods, and the mods I would buy if I was moving on, from a 510 to a mod. For the price that was put down, you could in fact get both of these and try out two mods for the price of one.......I know if I had an extra $130.00 for mods, I would get one of each of these and go from there. That way you have the ability to have two mods and use each one on seperate occasions based on what is needed for the particular time.

The best mod in existance is the Buzz from Notcig. With the ability to set the voltage level that is needed to achieve the ultimate taste that every juice made needs and set it for the cartomizer is a must. I tested this device for 510 cartridges/atomizers, 510 cartomizers, 801 atomizers (both drip and with the cartridge), 901 drip and cartridge as well as with a number of other attachments. I also found the resistance on cartomizers from the same box sometimes were different and needed a different level to obtain the sweet spot. If your just looking to produce vapor to inhale then by all means get one of the other mods but if your looking for a vaping experience that is second to none then the Buzz is your Mod. Also Notcigs customer service is second to none with Mike sometimes covering devices that were down from customer negligence but he covered them anyway, that's how good their customer service is. If you can't afford the $114.00 they cost Notcigs also sells the blems for 80 something dollars that from what I've been reading it's hard to spot the blemish. So do yourself a favor and go for the first variable voltage mod and one that was designed and not re-configured from another product.
BTW I wished I would have got the Buzz first instead of the 510 I had plus all the other mods I don't use any more. It would have saved me allot of money.

Ok here are my thoughts on what I have.
The chuck - it's heavy, bulky and eats battery quickly. I'm not impressed at all. It does pack a wallop at 6 volts though. I even melted a cartomizer with it. Lol

Saber. Nice fit in the hand. The touch sense button is a Pia you have to get it just right and you end up sucking air alot.

The buzz. Button kind of weird. It's set in a notch but still sticks out and will be easy to hit in your pocket. Hard to get adjusted to where you like it. All in all though it has a great hit when you get it in your zone. It is a bit heavy but I think that's just how it is with a 2 battery mod. It is not as heavy as the chuck though.

Now my favorite us the VYPR. It's only 3.7 but it is sleek and the button is round like a ball bearing with a good amount of spring back making it hard to trip by accident but easy to hit when you want to. You can flip battery around if you want the led to turn off while using it. Based on how much I love this thing I intend to buy a Joker. It is the vv version of the VYPR. I have heard great things about them from redgirl and a few others. I would trade my chuck or buzz for one in a heartbeat.
I would recommend the Joker. But can't speak from personal experience - yet.

Edit: I just noticed bobs post. I would look seriously at anything he recommends. Bob knows his stuff.

My vote would be for the Saber Touch or the Buzz out of your choices. The Variable volt is really a must for me, Sometimes I have certain juices that just taste better at a lower voltage and others that i vape at 5v or more.. I've had a couple of Chucks and although you can customize them, I had trouble with the graphics peeling /chipping off. And, the switch isnt the best. I personally love the Little Sister and Big Brother sold by ken over at box mods...they are both variable voltage,, and reasonably priced..plus, Ken is one of the nicest guys around and stands behind his work. Any problems and he will fix it fast. Just my 2cents.

I have owned a Saber Touch and its a fantastic mod. Havent had a Buzz but heard nothing but good things about it.

And...i wanted to add...if my post wins..i think you should just offer it up for someone who might need it in this group....

No I seriously don't know much about mods. The one I linked I HAD one till my kid took it. I had a Saber too.....those end caps look like crap IMO look like the female end of a garden hose, but I do agree if you're spending the money for a mod VV is darn near a must have. boB

The Prodigy V3 from puresmoker.com. It can run at 3.7 or 6v with a battery change. Has a bottom button that can be locked for putting it in your pocket or a bookbag or wherever you wouldnt want it to be activated on its own and comes with multiple springs to adjust for your liking when pressing the button. The full kit costs $117 it includes the V3 an atomizer, 4 batteries so you can have 2 spares, a battery charger, a maintenance kit, and i believe a sample bottle but ive just heard that. comes with a 6month warranty and puresmoker has great customer service. I personally dont have one but read around and look on youtube its got almost 100% positive reviews. Also its the best looking mod in my opinion and you can choose from media blasted or stainless steel. And from what ive heard its one of if not the smallest 6v tube mods out.

Also its completely mechanical so theres no worry about electronics shorting out on you. Read up on it for the price its def a great mod im trying to get one asap. Like said before ive also heard great things about the buzz and the others but i like the V3 because the appearances matter to me as well as performance and i personally think its the best looking mod out just ahead of the precise.
Edit: it also comes with an adapter at the top to fit the 510, 801, or 901, your choice and you can buy additional adapters. But the adapter looks like its just part of the tube you cant even tell its an adapter. Check out the site its the cone shaped part at the top of the device you cant even notice its an adapter. Good luck in your search!

ANOTHER EDIT: And as far as the battery rattle that can be solved by either stretching out the spring or using the hard spring. Also i believe you can buy graphics for different mods to wrap on them im not 100% about that but i think i saw somewhere someone put a custom wrap on a V2. So im guessing you could do it with a V3 or any other mod for that matter.

Also i have a magma kit im moving to a mod as well and the only people i know that smoke ive already got to try out vaping and they have stuff. so if you pick this mod and i win im just gonna find someone thats posting on the forum asking about buying their first kit and send it to them or you can send it to them or throw it in the PIF forum, your choice. I just wanted to give my opinion... and i just like trying to win contests lol

I really like my glv's, I like my REO, and by BSB is for backup. The glv's are durable, have a great button with excellent placement, they come in great colors, Jay is cool to deal with, easy to use, the only problem is they don't stand up -- hmm, maybe I should build something -- I do pound through batteries but I chain vape all day. I think 5V is 5V vaping, no matter the mod, his are well resistored or unresistored for 3.7/6V use (interchangeable caps, too), easy to sneak a toke, and won't roll off the table. I don't like the ST's looks, the buzz (And I don't want to carry a screwdriver and a multimeter, too!) and chuck's button weaknesses were already mentioned, and you rarely see glv's in the classifieds and, if so, not for long. Just my :2c:

If I won I would give the kit to my best friend, the V4L stuff didn't satisfy him and he's been slipping -- and he's already had heart surgery at 46! Damn genetics are going to kill him! :(

GLV-2 all the way. Nothing but awesome reviews, vapes at 5volts, apparently it has an amazing button, for $135 flat you get the mod, charger and batteries and a connection you want. You can even get it engraved for I think $10.00 more. I am definitely with no doubt in my mind grabbing one when ever I do get enough money. Good luck, not really caring if I get the starter kit but I love giving advice when I can <3

I have been looking to purchase my 1st HV Mod and have gotten some good responses, but I'm still not sure what mod to buy.

1) Find out the date/location of the next local meet up.
2) Attend.
3) Try out the various devices that other members bring with them.

Maybe by then someone might even have one of these to try.

Fisthill,

That is a good idea, we are having a meetup 10/2, but I don't know if I'm that patient. Also, I would like to get the Magma out to the winner before then, but my box mod died last night so I'm having to use my Magma. I want to get someone in need of a starter kit started ASAP. I get my bonus from work on Thursday which is why I'm planning on closing this thread then and making my purchase Friday.

My vote has to go for the Prodigy V3. I've owned a few devices, and this one is my all day every day device. I prefer it because unlike devices with a tactile switch, this switch will never give out. Unless it has a mechanical design, I just don't see it holding up over time. I'm not sure about you, but if I pay around $100 for something, I'd like to have it as long as I can. I work hard for my money and would like to keep the devices around for as long as possible when they cost over (what I consider to be disposable range) $30 bucks.

As earlier noted, the V3 is from what I understand, the smallest (thinnest) 6v device around. Also, by using a 17670 battery, you can go back to 3.7v if need be! Just a simple replacement of batteries for a 2-in-1 mod! I personally don't do the 3.7v any longer, but it is nice for when someone wants to try it out without knocking them back across the room with the vapor production.

The last thing I love about my V3 is the locking switch. I've noaloxed my switch so it's like butter! I can while driving, use one hand to flip it around and unlock the button, then turn it around again and vape away! I've yet to hurt it even after being dropped multiple times. Once, my kids took my wallet off of my dresser, which was keeping my V3 from rolling off, and when they did, it fell and hit the floor! No harm to it, other than the carto that broke off while threaded lol! Luckily, there was enough sticking up that I just used a pair of needle nose pliers and un-threaded it!

Did you ever see the video of Steve (CaSH from PS) run it over with his jeep, pick it up, and fire away!? That was awesome! Another time I've heard of it being dropped was out of an airplane lol! Someone working on the electrical system of a jet and dropped it out of their breast pocket...down to the hanger floor it went! Nothing at all wrong with it after picking up either! Or wait, was that the Icon from PS?? Either way, they are built exactly the same way, just one smaller than the other for 3.7v usage.

Good luck on whatever mod you choose! Only you will truly know what will make you happy!
