I've been following this thread since the beginning. I finally got around to trying it tonight. I found 3/32 ss wire rope at tractor supply. I cut a few pieces down to size for my aga-t2. I took one of the pieces apart and there was no thread in the middle. I washed it, and torched it really good. I put about 2 layers of ss mesh on the top portion and wrapped my coil on it. It is working awesome! Thanks to everyone here for all the great ideas! It was so much easier than rolling a mesh wick!

Received some 3.0mm 7/19 SS rope. I drilled one of my AGA-T's to a 9/64" wick hole. Did about a 1.5 wrap of 400 mesh and set it up with a 1.7ohm coil. Here's how she looks.

Not much trouble getting things stable and hot spot free. It is wicking well, but still needs time to season.
I'll give it a run in for a tank or two and report back.

Have some 7/7 on the way to try as well.

How does your juice taste compared to ceramic?

Haven't tried Ceramic to date. I have some coming with the AFPV coop and decided to wait rather than fashion any.

Taste so far is like a brand new SS mesh wick. it has improved over the 2ml but needs more seasoning. Might be making progress slower than mesh, there's a lot of metal in there! You can feel the weight just handling it.

I'm going to be talking about this again on my show tonight. From what I hear you guys have found that the 7x7 wicks better than the 7x19? Is that true?

My experience has been the exact opposite.

I have both 7x7 and 7x19 from amazon, as well as many others, and the only one I could get to wick well was 7x7. However, I was testing wicking in a little beaker of juice, not in an actual genny, (just standing the rope up in some juice and seeing if it wicks up).

I just saw this today on Reddit - taken from somewhere on facebook, apparently, (my, word is sure travelling!), which makes me reconsider the 7x19....now that I have a bunch of extra AGAs hanging around, (thanks CoOps), I will have to give it another go.

I am used to about a 1.8ohm coil on a 3/32" mesh wick. So my first setup seemed reasonable to try - 1.7ohms on a 3.0mm wire rope wrapped with just over one layer of mesh with 32g 3/4 turns. It was fine, but short of what I normally get in terms of hit and flavor.

This morning I recoiled using 32g twisted Kanthal, 4/5 turns to end up at 1.1ohms. This is a significantly lower resistance than I usually want or enjoy, but with this heavy fat wick that has no trouble staying wet, it is way better.

When you try this stuff, especially something as thick as I bought, be prepared to drop your resistance target at least 25%

Edit: About 4ml in and it keeps getting better.

New trick - Finally made a new wick, (last one I made was on 2-22 or something like that). Got a couple of extra AGAs from a CoOp and had a few minutes to work on one.

I cut a 38mm long rope wick, then carefully uncoiled it so I could remove the thread. I then found that I could recoil the strands of the rope wick without the center strand, (making a 6x7, hollow core, 3/32" rope). The idea behind it is to reduce heat up time, and reduce the heat soak, (and drastic heating of the top cap), by reducing mass.

Put a single wrap of 500 mesh around it, made a 4 wrap, 0.7-0.8 ohm, 28ga coil. So far, it's working great.

Update - the hollow core reduced the heat buildup in the cap in this short testing. Can't evaluate leakproofiness - this new AGA-T2 has a 3mm hole instead of the 2.4mm hole of my old AGA-T+ thanks to some machinations of the co-op organizer, so the wire rope fits more loosely, as a result, juice leaks out around the sides when horizontal.

Good news is I can vape vertical all day without issue, and I think the bit of juice that can come up the core helps a lot with heat dissipation.
