I can only get it up to 35v. I'll build another one that goes higher to join my fatter gauge wire.

Something is not right
All of the disposable flash boards I've tested charge to over 300vdc
And I've tested quite a few different ones out of cameras and from AllElectronics.com

I realized what it was right after I typed that. The LM2577 board can only put out, if you adjust it, 35v which is enough to join 36 gauge kanthal and silver wire. Anything thicker, it can't handle. I just ordered another board that can put out 60v, which should be more than enough.

The flashes do put out that much voltage, but nobody needs more than 60-75v for what we are trying to accomplish. I like having the screw on the potentiator , which allows me to adjust my voltage. Then the voltage remains constant (where you set it). Even if you take the battery out to charge it and put it back in, it's permanently set at that voltage. It's kind of cool.

Not knowing a lot about electricity, I've definitely zapped the piss out of myself more than once. Good times.

No kidding? Thank you for the lesson in electricity. I looked all over the internet trying to find info. Looks like I have to order a new capacitor.

Actually, I do have a bunch of disposable cameras laying around from all of those failed attempts. I'll just use one of those.

And there I was trying to sound smart with 1 whole week of accumulated knowledge. Dangit.
