Hi All

Ive just ordered my 1st rba, i went for the kayfun 3.1 clone, ive ordered 5 x pre coiled 1.5 ohm micro coils as im a total newbie at rebuilding

I have the Innokin 134 mini that will not work below 1.2 ohm

i have a couple of questions:

1. what would be the best kanthal gauge to buy and how thick?

2. does creating a micro coil reduce the ohm?

3. Does the organic cotton wool balls ive bought need boiling?

4. as id like the ohm to be around 1.5 , how many loops should I make on the coil?

cheers in advance, its always great to come on here to steal the wealth of experience from you guys :)

vape on!

1. Either 28g or 30g, depending on how many wraps you want to have to get to your desired ohms. A 1.5ohm coil of 28g will have more wraps and take longer to heat up than a 30g at the same resistance.

2. No, the resistance of the coil is determined by the gauge and the length of wire used, you can wrap a coil to pretty much any resistance you want. A micro coil allows for more heat in a smaller space, you can usually get the performance of a lower resistance coil without going lower resistance.

3. Boiling cotton is a personal preference, I and many others don't, many do. You're talking about plain cotton balls right?

4. This depends on the gauge wire you're using, and the diameter of whatever you'll be wrapping the wire around. I tend to use a 1/16" drill bit to wrap coils on. 1.5 ohms on 1/16" for 30g would be about 7 or 8 wraps I believe, it would need to be more like 10 or 11 for 28g.

Hope some of that helps.

Most of what you have asked you will learn by experimenting.

first off, i wouldn't buy premade coils.
re-coiling is rather easy once you get the hang of it. I am nowhere near perfect, but it has started to become easier and faster for me to re-coil.

As for thickness of wire,
here is the simple way to think about it.
thicker the wire, bigger the coil(in terms of turns)
thinner the wire, smaller the coil.

Now if you were planning to re make a coil for pro-tank you would be better off with a 30 gauge
on most rba, 28 gauge is best imo.
