That would be a disaster. Kids need school to develop social skills. Could you imagine if everyone in the world was home-schooled? *shiver*

I think homeschooling has it's merits, if home schooled by the right person. *grin* Not everyone is capable--either academically or psychologically or both. Myself being of the "both" category. Home Schoolers have "extracurricular" activities that allow them socialization. You'd be surprised at all the cool stuff they're involved in.

A previous poster that mentioned her child doesn't even have textbooks isn't too far off for myself either. I have three kids--11yrs, 13yrs, and 17yrs. The 11yr old had no textbooks whatsoever last year. The 13yr old had 3; Science, History, and Language Arts. The 17yr old had 1; American History.

I'm deeply committed to my children's academics and help with homework each and every evening. I'm more concerned with the appalling lack of interest or concern from our government AND the parents themselves.

I feel like if I'm there every evening; taking an active roll in my childrens education--I can point out the "misprints" and teach them America, American, Minority, Poor, Teenager, etc...

Just my 2 cents... :)

On the home school thing.. here in Phx there's a high school that does home schooling online. My sister was enrolled there until she moved back to OK to live with her mom. That school work was HARD.. She was in her 10th grade year and she was doing stuff my high school only taught in the advanced senior classes. There is something to be said for home schooling, especially for kids that don't "fit in". In normal schools my sis had been failing, mostly because she's not "normal" ever seen a 6th grade GIRL that was almost 6ft tall? Being a sensitive person she couldn't take the cruelty of the other kids and it showed in her school work, as soon as I convinced our dad and her mom to take her out of public schools she became a straight A student doing harder course work.
