The first press release announcing World vaping Day has just come out.
World Vaping Day - Thursday 22nd March 2012
It was a major job getting it approved - they wanted references for every single statement of fact in the release, which resulted in a huge addition of citations to the foot which is larger than the PR article content. Their citation requirements seem to be more like those of a medical journal, not a PR company. It was probably a mistake to use that particular firm for this job, since having to provide a reference for any and every fact easily found in the literature seems to obscure the basic purpose of a press release - a short article for marketing purposes that can be judged on its content alone.
Next time we might use a press release facility not a peer-reviewed journal, in order to keep the article to a reasonable length. Facts are easily checked by anyone who is interested enough to want to check them. Providing citations for statements such as, "The sky is blue" in a press release seems a little pointless.
