Okay so I bought a Colonial Clone and I'm taking a good look at it and I notice; there are no vent holes anywhere on this. Not in the top, not on or around the button, and if seals basically flush to the tank I have on it. I'm thinking of returning it because last I checked, this is a no no. Am I overly worried here?

This was the same issue that came up with the Manhattan back in the day. They said they designed the switch to breathe above a certain psi. So before you return it, take the cap off but keep the switch on and try to blow through the mod as hard as you can to see if they maybe designed it into the switch's function.

Open your mod, remove the battery. Put your lips on the tube and blow. If you feel air escaping through the switch, your okay.

Is this the super cheap one from FT for about $14? If there is no vent hole anywhere, like in the bottom cap, yes, it is cause for concern.

Does the battery load from the top or the bottom? (on some they load from top)

There are a ton of these clones and they are all different. This once, for instance, has a vent hole in bottom cap:
Colonial Mod Clone [Pink] $39.99 - VividSmoke.com

Can you post a photo and where you got it? As others have noted, it may vent thru the switch

The battery loads in from the top. Got it for about 40 from a local BNM shop, nothing really indicates who made it.

Thanks, I did feel air escaping.

Thank you guys for the help. So far it's a very solid feeling mod. It works well and I'm liking it a lot. Just drew concern for a few. I will be careful about things like noticing if it gets hot, but so far so good.

No worries. At least you thought about it and asked the question. Hopefully, you know about battery safety.

What batteries are you using, and what resistance coils are you using?

Using the proper batteries, and not exceeding their amp limit by building coils that they can't handle safely will go a long way to preventing a disaster.

Does your mech have a bottom firing button? Is the button recessed, or does it have a safety lock? If so, do you set the lock each time you set it down? Many auto fire incidents occur from simply setting the mod down on a table.

I had a battery vent/blow up in a my first mechanical mod three years ago. The fire switch was a protruding horn-style button, and got compressed contiuously in a pocket in a work locker. It didn't have vent holes, but the mod was designed to vent via the fire switch. The battery went into thermal runaway and vented through the fire button as designed, but it didn't prevent a small fire and ruined the fire switch, not to mention ruining my pair of pants.
