So, I was whining on the forum a couple days ago about vaping not being enjoyable with a cold, it's not! My nasal passages are not as clear as a back road in the middle of winter, but they certainly don't bear resemblance to the Bronx River Parkway at rush hour anymore. Today and I can actually "taste" the juice again.
This cold went in stages. First was the sore throat (minor irritation), then the headache (killer), then the congestion (hell) and now begins the cough. I was sitting here hacking away, mired in self-pity when the realization hit me. There wasn't a day in the past few years where I didn't cough; until the end of September. I mean, I still occasionally cough without a cold, but not the chunky cough (if you know what I mean).
I never thought I had a smoker's cough, I would cough throughout the day, with various parts of my lung coming up, but I didn't consider it a "smoker's cough." I had this impression because my father, who had smoked since he was about 10 years old had a old-fashioned, coffin-nail, smoker's cough. Every morning growing up I would watch him hacking by the kitchen table until he was red in the face for at least half-an-hour. That is what I thought of when I thought "smoker's cough." I never realized that I also had a smoker's cough, I thought I was in the beginning stages of one, but that it was years down the road. So, my unwelcome cold has given me a bit of perspective.
BTW, my dad quit smoking about 10 years ago. It took a doctor telling him it was quit or die, but he did it. This after his brother had a laryngectomy and died of cancer in his 40's. I myself watched my sister-in-law, a very good soul, fight a long battle with cancer and die at the age of 42. I continued smoking and only tried to quit once. If not for ecigs I would still be smoking and sadly, I know that I would start smoking analogs if I didn't have this choice.
So, thank the lord for my cold, it did some good this time.
