Wow they reek!

I am convinced that vapers can smell smokers more. I can smell a cigarette being lit from 20 feet away. When i stopped smoking for 6 months a couple of years ago (without using a pv) i never had this super sensitive nose !
I wouldn't say the smell is repulsive but it is certainly unappealing.
That poses the question 'does using VG/PG actually increase your sense of smell' ?

I must be the minority, because it doesn't bother me in the least. I like the fact that I no longer smell like it, my clothes, my car, my hands, everything smells better on me, but I still like the cigarette smell. Guess like another poster said, its nostalgia.

I am very glad I am no longer smoking, but I am not turned off by the smell at all.

as far as i understand how this works. we are here to discuss smoking and vaping. when i say "my hypocrisy", i mean the experience as it relates to me. and since we still live in America, i am still entitled to my opinion as it relates to me . perhaps people on here do not understand what a "reformed smoker" is. they are a rare breed. to give an example. say a roommate from years ago. say me and him spent years making love to our analogs, over coffee and chat. lets say tragically that person gets emphysema. here you have a person who was forced to quit because of having no other option. this person becomes a huge pain in the tush. constantly blaming all the problems of the world on big tobacco, and not taking any responsibility for the choices he/she made. i get that he/she might be angry, but that person has no right to tell me what i should do with my own choices. the constant nagging, the comments about my breathing. complaining about the smell he/she was all to happy to create when he/she was a smoker. now i don't have emphysema yet, or cancer yet, but the thought of becoming that person, who refuses to take responsibility for his/her choices? and all to happy to treat the same group of people less than people(like i was treated my whole life), well i say again. "my hypocrisy" (as it relates to me)(not any one else ) runs only so deep. as former smokers we all have the choice to be the kind of person we want to be when it comes to other smokers. for my smoking brethren i say again. clean ashtrays, and ECF cards in my home, vehicles, and at work. anytime they want. no judgements (I'm Just Saying)

I let people smoke in my house and my car. I was an indoor smoker for years. One person smoking a few cigarettes once in awhile doesn't leave a permanent smell. I will sit at a table with smokers. The only thing that really bugs me is if I am eating and someone is sitting right next to me smoking. It's not a very yummy combo. Yes, it stinks, and no, I don't want anyone chainsmoking inside on a regular basis, but I don't go crazy over it, either. Like others have said, I keep silent. From time to time I will also have the opposite response and watch them smoke like a dog begging for scraps. You don't want to know what I sometimes do to my SO after he finishes smoking a cigar, either.

The smell of smoke and stale smoke always bothered me even when I did smoke. Now it bothers me even more, but not to the point of being offended or acting offensive when I smell it. I think fake coughers are melodramatic. Unless they're asthmatic or have a lung disease and have a legit reason to be coughing, wheezing, or gasping for air, they shouldn't be drawing attention to themselves by acting obnoxious.

I remember how small non smokers used to make me feel and the rebel in me did not always respond kindly.

This is what I've had happen to me lately...
There is no smoking allowed in my apt bldg or the bldg next door.
In the middle of the night, while I'm deep in sleep, I've been awakened by the guy in the bldg next door outside smoking.
AND...
My windows and doors are all shut.
The smell actually wakes me up!
So, either my nose has become like Rin Tin Tin, or maintenance needs to come and do some caulking.

I just plugged in an air purifier and it has solved the problem.

Speaking of the smell and self-righteous nonsmokers - my mother smokes and has smoked indoor for years. My father is retired, but volunteers as a part time driver for people from his church. Naturally, the car has been smoked in, though my father does not smoke. He will help get people who cannot drive and have no close family to the airport, doctor's appointments, etc. It's his personal little ministry. Most of them are really nice people, but one in particular wrinkles his nose and says, "It smells like cigarettes," virtually every single time he gets in the car. He lent my father his laptop for a week once and complained about the lingering smoke smell when he received it back. Does it smell? Sure it does. Is this guy an arrogant jerk? Oh, yes. My father never says a word. I have a few words, though.

cigarettes don't bother me for the most part. once in a while I get a unpleasant whiff. when I did smoke and travel it was always unpleasant to open my suitcase. Even with everything freshly washed that bad smell would permeate.

What's the difference between stale smoke smell and rank body odor? Would you tell someone to take a bath if it burnt your nose to sit by them? Or would you say..." Hey funky person, come on in and sit on my couch....take your shirt and shorts off so that sweat can soak in real good to the fabric....I want some of that yumminess to linger for days after you leave.... How dare anyone tell you not to waft in their direction"

Or...".hey friend..... Are you feeling gassy again or is the sewer backing up? Wanna spend the night? No, I don't mind your flatulance....it's nostalgic... Once I figure out how to make a cool signature on these forums I will add mine, but it has been about 3 years since my last cigarette and I used to smoke easily 40 cigarettes a day. I originally started vaping because my girlfriend at the time constantly complained about the smell and the north is not a smoker-friendly place any more, so it meant constantly having to stop whatever I was doing to go have a cigarette.

I live in the middle of the woods in New England and no one smokes up here anymore it seems, so I don't smell it a lot. Went I went to visit friends from college in Washington DC over the summer who still do smoke and honestly it was a bit strange to be the only one not smoking. I have mixed feelings about the smell, but I understand so much more now how some people must hate it.

I think the best thing about vaping is the ability to do it anywhere anytime without producing huge clouds of noxious smog. In situations where it would be strange or unusual for a person to be visibly be spewing clouds of peach scented water vapor, I simply use the PV like an asthma inhaler.

Now that I do not spew noxious smog I have thought about being a jerk to people creating smells I do not like. For example, I hate coffee, so now I (jokingly) tell people how bad their steamy cup stinks and ask them if they can go like, drink that outside or something.

I can't stand the smell of analogs. Never noticed it before. It used to smell good to me when I smoked. It's the worst when going from a store and walking outside, BOOM and notice the person was smoking quite a distance away. I can now understand non smokers argument about the smell. I keep my comments to myself though, I'm not going to infringe on somebody's rights.

Infringe on their rights? What about your right NOT to stink? The right to buy a product (soap & fabric softener) and enjoy using it? If their right to "light up" infringes on your right to "smell clean" then they are infringing on yours. Why are people so afraid of advocating for themselves anymore? Is this what the PC brainwashed society we live in has become?

If I decide to take a dump on your lawn, is that okay because I have the right to relieve myself? Or do you have the right to a clean lawn since you own & maintain it?

guess i'm in the minority, but i LOVE the smell of 2nd hand cigarette, cigar, or pipe smoke. but have definitely noticed how much they make you smell after being off of them for 3 months.

last thought about reformed smokers(i am speaking about myself here, no one else). if i become a hypocritical ex smoker drama queen , i risk offending the KARMA gods. KARMA does not care who we are, our position in society, how many days we have been smoke free, or how full of ourselves we are. karma only remembers opportunity's we missed to be decent human beings.I risk nothing less than falling right back into the tobacco trap, terrible diseases, or unfortunate events , of which i already have too much of. it would take 2 lifetimes to make up for my sins. better not to mistreat others. a policy i use in my life (that's my life as it relates to me, and nobody else). when i am wronged by someone, i do not take action to avenge the bad behavior. i put it in the hands of karma, and i get payback sooner or later. i use karma with deadly accuracy. it works every time. i have had to wait years, but everyone who has wronged me, has seen payback in full.

When I was growing up my parents did not smoke, but back then...in the 1950s and 1960s, all of their friends did. My mother would buy cartons of cigarettes (regular and menthol) and keep them in the freezer to put out for guests. She had a pretty silver box that she'd put them in and offer them with refreshments as a matter of course. My parents also entertained a lot. They'd throw big parties and all the fine people in their furs and diamonds and nice suits would be smoking away all over the house. I loved it. I really liked the smell of second hand smoke. I associated it with being an adult and sophisticated.

I smoked for many decades. In the last couple of decades I'd grown tired of of many of the side effects of smoking. Tired of the burns in my clothes and furniture. Tired of the scum on the walls and pictures, and most of all tired of the guilt. I was able to quit 18 months ago with e-cigs, and I'm really glad about that. Now I DO notice when I'm around a smoker. I can pick up on it right away, and I no longer find it "pleasant" like I did when I was young. I don't say anything. After all..there, but for Fortune, go I.

Besides I always disliked and had contempt for anti-smoking Nazis. I think the worst of those Nazis are former smokers, themselves. And probably they quit the tortuous "cold turkey" way and have a chip on their shoulder about it. Or a superiority complex. I've noticed that people who had never smoked at all were far more tolerant of my smoking than people who'd quit.
