Hello people - newbie here. I am currently using an eGo-C starter kit from Totally Wicked (I know, I know, I paid too much - this is before I found this forum). I recently ordered the Vision eGo clearomizers v2 from smoktek and waiting for them to arrive. Having started re-vaping (is that right?) from the standard 510 starter kits that were around 3 years ago, the difference is really huge - not used to having a battery that lasts most of the day (and I still only have the 650's) and catridges that last almost as long!
Although I'm a noob, I am an electronics technician and I have already experimented successfully in making my own e-liquids, so I'm not completely in the dark.
After having read quite a few posts, I'm already looking for my next potential setup. My problem is that the high end e-cig industry *appears* to be similar to the "audiophile" industry, where manufacturers have opportunity to prey on customers who know enough to be dangerous, and may be willing to experience things that aren't really there in order to satisfy their desire to talk techie and tweak till they're broke.
I would like to connect here with people who are well-grounded, skeptical, and cost-conscious, but still want to get the most out of their vaping experience. Anyone?
:)

Hi Ocelot - thank you for the welcome. I started flashing back to the audiophile debunking after I saw $200 for what is essentially a battery holder with an LED dislay and built-in volt/ohm meter. Flags start to go up, y'know. I'm sure that there are very good devices available, and that they will be more expensive than others - I just would like to take things slowly and critically.
Nice to meet you!

My thoughts exactly yet someone is bound to recommend the Provari before this thread dies.

Welcome to the forum. It is very massive. I'm still finding parts of the forum that I didn't know existed.

Hi sbacho, i really don't think you'll find many here.........anyhow, my dad learned electronics in the navy during Korea. You should do well with vaping.......lots of us could use help with battery problems.
Good luck to you and try some of the new clearomizers..Kanger T2,T3 and Vision Vivi Nova

That's ok - I don't mind recommendations that may not fit everyone's taste or wallet. The ProVari may be a sweet device, maybe even worth the money (it sure looks cool! like a lightsaber or something!). My question would be whether there is actually any practical benefit over something like a simple Ego Twist. I'm not even sure that variable voltage is all that, yet. That's why I'm looking for practical advice and like-minded members.

Is the Kanger pretty much the same as the Vision eGo Clearomizers (V2) that I ordered?

It just comes down to what you want it to do, or who you think you want to impress! You can spend $50 or you can spend $500, both do the same thing at the end of the day, some do it better, some easier, some are more durable.
Most people are fat dumb and happy with an EGO and don't need anything more! I've finally broken down and ordered a Provari, but I see the good in the durability of it as I am hard on things!
I fancy myself as a bit of an "audiophile" (I love music, but can't afford the "good stuff") I'd love to get my hands on one of Bob's new tube amps, WOW would that be nice! But I don't need it, my old NAD is working fine, so why?
I'm also a flashaholic, you think PV's are crazy? Start looking at custom flashlights! I have an HDS high CRI, it's a tank! Again, I'm hard on things, so I could justify it for that reason, but I'm not going to buy a $500 titanium custom and treat it like that!

while elitist in price most of the high end stuff is worth it (to most who own it).
It comes down to quality difference - not like a name tag difference like Krell VS crown VS peavey.
the difference is usually associated more with the precision and craftmanship as well as attention to detail.

an example: you can have the new AGA atomizer mass produced in china for 30 dollars - knowing full well it works fine, but there may be some flaws, a dud here or there, sloppy assembly on a few of them and when it comes apart or the cheap plastic tank breaks you toss it.

or you can buy a handmade ZEN or cobra (and others) for 150 and see the attention to detail and precision work and be proud of that purchase.
unlike other industries the higher end stuff is usually produced by very small shops and even though it may seem like they only release a limited quantity they are trying to make sure they release more then 15 at a time when they do. and this causes the apperence of holding out for exclusivity. (some probably add that in as well)

I wont say this about everything in the vape community, but with most items you get what you pay for - and there is a common theme if you plan to stick with vaping - you pay now or you pay later(adding up the cheapo's you go through), but you will spend the money somewhere.

Hi sbacho, thanks for your post. If you search for tasteyourjuice you will find pbusardo's site, there are several reviews of products/vendors. But youtube in general has tons of reviews on mods.
For low cost, I like the Vision Spinner Variable voltage devices. I use the with a Vivi Nova tank. Although they will work with most attys / cartos with a 510 connection.

So, for about $20 for the Vision Spinner and $14 for a Vivi Nova tank; you can be on your way. You will also need a charger cable, but not sure about what that cost.

I like the Vivi Nova tank because it can be rebuilt cheaply, (coil wound with a new wick) for less than a quarter. Or a new head for $2-$3.

I just would like to take things slowly and critically.

If you only join one forum, maybe, If you join more then one...Those will be considered your famous last words.
Just by joining your odds of becoming like us are 100% greater.

And to follow the HIFI scent...Very few devices are "Monster Cables".
Provari...I'll let you do the research.

welcome, good luck and have fun.

When you say v2, we are going to assume thats the nonreplaceable head model.......you will find out soon enough that there is alot of confusion in this market. The v2 is the first clearomizer i used starting in July......still use and like, but, the Kanger t2 has replaceable heads for $1 and has a much easier draw. It also holds more liquid. I also can't type so it takes awile.

Thanks Ocelot! I'll definitely check it out, as soon as I get access. Apparently I'm not allowed yet :(

You're the second new member I've directed to the Blogs (Baditude has a great one explaining gear!) who couldn't access them. Strange. I can't find a rule about it. Too bad too, there is lots of information posted (Mine is a just a satire).

Possibly the best APV built.
Really worth every penny.
Others are compared to it for a good reason.
Variabe voltage and what you set is exactly what you get.
American made quality and attention to every detail.
Repairable,resellable,and the best warranty period.
Investing in one is never considered a waste of money, ask ANYONE who owns it.

you mean like that?
