Sharing a post in social media:

First, click on the post number at the lower right corner of the post. It'll look like this:

Ignoring a forum.

Many have asked for the ability to ignore a forum so it doesn't show up in searches and "New Posts". To ignore a forum, go to the forum you wish to ignore and look for the following under the "Post New Thread" button:

jpZ0gF1.png

You'll then be presented with the following:

AgXWD75.png

Select the appropriate options for ignoring the forum.

If you select the wrong options, you can change them in your profile settings.

Changing your personal preferences and options.

Mouse over your username at the top right corner of the forum and you'll see a box drop down that looks like this:

XenForo also gives us a wide range of notifications that users have been asking for. Included are:

Notification when your post is quoted.

Notification when you are "tagged" in a post (for example, @retired1)

Watched thread notices

Watched forum notices

As well as Like notices.

In addition, you can set notices for messages on your profile page as well as well as other areas in the forum, including blogs and media pages.

Alerts and new conversations will show at the top right corner of the page.

VLyw77I.png

You can mouse over the item and it will show you what the alert is for. Click on the alert and it will take you to the item that was liked, quoted, tagged, etc.

General ways of doing things:

qJBzaFQ.png

Sticky threads have a push pin displayed.

Locked threads have a padlock displayed.

To go to the first unread post in a thread, click the little blue dot to the left of the thread title.

To go to the very last post in a thread, click on the time under the name of the last poster who posted to the right of the thread title.

To go to the very first post in a thread, click on the time next to the name of the original poster under the thread title.

XenForo also has a responsive design. What this means is the forum automatically adjusts for small screen sizes found on mobile devices.

Here's an example of how it will look using Chrome on a small screen:

Just think, no more third party applications to view ECF!

Conversations are the old PMs. Unfortunately, the options for Conversations are somewhat limited compared to what we're currently using but we've created some options that hopefully will allow you to organize your conversations.

First, there is no option to create additional folders to save your messages. To get around this, you can create a prefix that you can then assign to specific conversations and then filter accordingly.

To create your prefixes look for the Conversation Prefixes link in your inbox.

j8NJUcR.png

You'll then be presented with a screen that allows you to create/edit your prefixes.

MysGBzu.png

You can then create as many prefixes as you wish to help organize your conversations.

Now you'll need to assign the prefix to your existing messages. Select the message you want to assign a prefix to.

k55R3Im.png

Where it says "Other Action" on the popup, click on that and then select "Set Conversations Prefix"

You'll then see your customized prefix assigned to the conversation.

MoXmnI0.png

Other than that, there's not much to say regarding conversations other than it allows you to communicate privately with other users.

To delete a conversation, all you need to do is "leave" the conversation. You'll be presented with an option to accept future messages on that particular conversation or block. If you block, it's gone for good, even if the other person attempts to reply.

Creating a thread, uploading images.

XenForo gives you a couple of really slick ways of uploading images to your post.

For the FireFox users (and anyone else who prefers this method), you'll need to use the "Upload a File" button at the bottom of the reply box.

rYaRsgN.png

You'll then see this:

psgWJm3.png

Select Choose File and go find the image on your computer.

XenForo will automatically upload once you select the file and you'll see something like this now:

Z9lKu6O.png

You can now select whether you want the image to appear as a thumbnail or full sized within the post. Don't worry about the dimensions being too big as the software will automatically resize full sized images to fit accordingly.

You can now post the image, or type whatever text you wish to add to the post, then select Create Thread or Post (depending on what you're doing).

Now, here's the exciting bit for Chrome users. You can drag and drop images into the text box as well. (Sorry, there's an issue with the FireFox browser and the way it encodes messages using this method, so FireFox users won't be able to use this feature successfully.) If I get the time, I'll record it in action and add it to this thread.

XF also remembers what you've posted. Ever type up that huge post only to find you clicked the wrong button and closed your browser?

When you log back into ECF and go back to the thread you were going to reply to, you'll find what you've typed already there in the reply box. Slick huh?

If you decide that you don't want to post it after all, delete the text and then click on the little picture of a disk, then select delete draft. You can also manually save as you type, too.

Almost forgot a really IMPORTANT one. How to log in once we make the switch!!

It's really pretty simple!

Look for the Login button at the very top right corner of the screen.

wpl0QtD.png

You'll then be presented with the login screen.

D2qt0Xb.png

Make sure the question Do you already have an account? is set to yes, my password is

Type in your username and password (don't forget to check the "Stay logged in" box!) and you're logged in!

OK, last up for the Tips and Tricks series are user privacy settings. XF gives users a TON of options for how they want their information to be viewed as well as how they want to be contacted.

To access your privacy settings, mouse over your user name at the top right of the forum and when you see the options pop up, select Privacy.

2svuwv3.png

You'll now be presented with a lot of options here.

IWFDlgu.png

The first 5 options here are fairly self explanatory.

XF provides you some nice tools to determine who can see the information as well as post messages on your profile page. You can set it to Members only, all visitors to the site, or even just those you follow. If you uncheck the box, it blocks everyone (except staff) from seeing your profile.

The same settings are available for your conversations (PMs). You can elect to have all members be able to contact you, or just those who you follow. You can even turn conversations off by unchecking the box (and no, that will not block staff members from being able to start a conversation with you).

You'll also see options for your blog settings.

As for notifications, you may want to go visit those settings as soon as you sign in when ECF is back up and running with the new software. You may find it overwhelming with the number of notifications you start getting. See the drop down at the top of this post? Select Alert Preferences.

And last, but not least, if you're like me and HATE being automatically subscribed to threads that you start or post in, select Preferences from your user name drop down. You can then select those items you wish (or don't wish) to be subscribed to.

So far this sounds wonderful what I'm seeing! Especially the quoting options. I'm known in a few threads as queen of the multiquote lol Some love it, some not so much, but seems it will make it much easier for those who want to respond to only a portion of my multiquote to do so. Can't wait to see more about this and how it works!
