I bought a Xtar VC8 on Mar 21 2022 and it died today May 15th. It wont turn on and smells burnt. My batteries thankfully are ok. Any ideas of what might have killed it? I really like it and it was supposed to be a good brand.

No Idea. Sometimes the magic smoke escapes.
Good luck.

Problem is I purchased from Amazon. I am outside 30 day return period. I dont think Amazon will replace or repair.

I can appreciate that...looking at the official flow chart did not leave me optimistic either.

Sometimes products last for years and sometimes, they are DOA.

I hope your identical replacement is NOT DOA and will NOT need to be returned to Amazon for a refund/credit.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Buy another VC8 from Amazon (if it was "sold by" a 3rd party seller try to buy from them again). Then a few days after you receive it, put in a return request due to defective product. If they want the defective charger back (it's doubtful that they will but they will pay shipping if they do), send them the defective one (of course).

Personally I'd never buy a charger from a marketplace. Too much chance of a fake. Yes, even if it's shipped by amazon.

I have the following XTAR products.
  1. 6 Port USB Hub (2.1A per USB)
  2. Two Single 2.1A USB Chargers
  3. Two VC4
  4. One VC4S
  5. One 3A USB Charger
I can recommend they are great products. The first 3 I had for 4 and 7 years respectfully. And all of them are working flawlessly. I absolutely love XTAR products.

Not that I have any faith in authenticity checkers because I have bought stuff directly from Eleaf and Aspire that say my authenticity code is not authentic loool, but did you check the authenticity code on you VC8's box?
I just did. It says its authentic.

It is a good brand. But like everyone, I'm sure XTRAR is not perfect and will have an early failure every once in a while.

FWIW, I have a bunch of XTAR chargers -- all older VP1 and VP2s, some as old as 2014. The only problem I've had with them is the displays get dim after some years if they're left powered on continuously, so I've taken to unplugging them when not in active use.

I would rather have multiple 2-cell chargers than one 4, 6, or 8 cell charger for a couple of reasons:
1) I rarely charge more than two cells at a time.
2) I have backup chargers if one does die.

That's interesting to know. I have VP2's and the screen has faded on the one I've been using for years. Just got the second one out because I'm getting through more batteries lately. I always left them plugged in. Maybe I should get into unplugging them.

Although, I never change the settings so all that really matters is that the little red light turns green when it's done.
